Looking for some advice on bling...... It seems that bling (or jewelry) is a major attraction for birds. Is there a way too stop the attack on the bling? Is there a way to wear jewelry with out being bit or pulled into the next millenium? I also don't want birdies to actually get any bling....not birdie safe...

I LOVE the bird necklace! Maybe the birdies could get one for us on our b'days....hint hint ;*

Hm, i almost always have my jewelry on and Gilbert must have just become used to it because he doesn't go after it too much. He occasionally tries to fool with my earrings but if i say "no", he stops. (If he doesn't stop, he is not allowed shoulder time.)
It does catch their attention and they definitely want to play with it though. Gilbert just seems to be easy enough to 'redirect' to something appropriate and he doesn't give me a hard time.

The Beaks really went to town on my jewellery when they first arrived, but it didn't take long to put a stop to it. I simply said 'No' firmly and removed them from whatever they were having a go at (wedding ring, glasses, earrings). Now, they don't bother to try unless they're being a bit over the top. It only takes that one 'No!' and removal to the perch and they're fine. I've never taken my jewellery off to suit the birds because I figured they have to learn to live with me, not the other way round. It took, maybe, a week of daily 'lessons' to teach them to leave the jewellery alone.

Now, if I could only teach the little toads to leave my hair sticks alone!!! I like to put my bun up with wooden hair sticks and the Beaks reckon all wood is their chew toy. No amount of 'No' has stopped them from trying to process my hair sticks into matchwood.

Pickles the white wing leaves it alone, but my Quaker Yoda has broken necklaces and pulled an earring out of my ear--I either don't allow him near it when I'm handling him or take it off.

The minute I come home, I immediately take off EVERY piece of jewelry. GCCs see a piece of jewelry, and lock onto it...there's no getting them off! So I just dont wear it around them. HOWEVER, I do have a bird necklace that i wear sometimes, and they like it:

I tried making my own birdie necklace out of those jingling plastic cat balls. The moment I wore it, my sun conure went to attack it and bit me in the process. He must have been jealous or thought that thing was strangling me. No bird necklaces for me :(

As for regular jewelry, I do not wear any but I imagine I'd take it off like Agapornis right away when I get home. There's no stopping a determine bird sometimes. But then again you can train him to leave it alone. I wear glasses and Boomer used to chew it but I just kept telling him 'NO' and he leaves it alone on my face now (99% of the time anyway).
