I live in the mountains on a farm. It is so much
Parrots
I have 2 conures. One is a Sun named Mango who is my little gymnast and he is two years old. Kiwi, a mischievous little Green Cheek is one and a half.
Does anyone know if it is ok to give conures black oil sunflower seeds like the kind you buy for bird feeders? Is there anything different about them verses sunflower seeds sold for parrots?

Thanks!

In moderation, I don't suppose it's harmful. It's not the best thing for them, but as an occasional treat, it won't kill them.

I hear the white striped sunflower seeds are healthier for them.

I would not include sunflower seeds in the diet unless you feed them sprouted.

They can also be used as training treats! (as Birdman suggested)

The black oil has a thinner shell and has more fat. The striped has a thicker shell and less fat. We feed the outside birds during migration and winter and we only feed black oil due to the higher fat content. I personally wouldn't give it to my birds.

It is very high in fat content yes! I wouldn't feed those either unless they're in a flighted aviary where they can burn off more energy by flying. But I don't see it to be a problem to use it as an occasional treat or for training purposes. But at a minimal amount of course.
