Hi everyone,

So I stumbled upon Black Lories a few weeks back and I have fallen in love with them. But I am having REAL trouble finding a breeder/babies. Can anyone help me out? I am hoping to purchase in March (tax return time :)

Thanks! And any stories/advice anyone has on these awesome birds would be appreciated!

Welcome :) black lories are BEAUTIFUL! Really stunning birdies!

What country and/or state are you located in? That will help people to recommend a breeder

I've got a Black Lory! His name is Malachai, what would you like to know about them??? Mine came from a breeder in FL. Not sure which one cause a lady brought him up from FL to sell here at the bird fair and I fell in love with him instantly and he chose me right away.

The main thing is do keep up with their diet requirements! Mine gets fresh fruits and veggies daily with a bit of nectar sprinkle over it, that's the way he likes it....He also get warm nectar at night. He also have his Lory nuggets that he can eat whenever he likes. But he prefers his fresh stuff....

Here he is.... :D

Ok MikeyTN, he is BEAUTIFUL! He is exactly what I'm hoping to find. How sweet that he chose you too :)

Ok, well, I am living in northern Utah. I'm guessing that no matter what, I'll be at the mercy of someone who's willing to ship.

As far as feeding, I'm certain it's something I could do and all the tips/hints you have are appreciated.:) What's his personality, temperament, talk and trick ability been like? Does he like to snuggle?

OMG hes gorgeous !!!! I here their rare too. I like the shape of them [they look like my Yellow streaked ). Some Lorries look different. The only negative thing I can say about mine, he very aggressive towards my other birds [I just have to have him out by himself[ I don't know if its a male thing

I had my Rb2 shipped and I had a friend have a 12 year old Macaw shipped. Both were great experiences . I just wanted to pass that along [its such a scary thought]. But it should be thought of so we don't miss out on great birds. Heres a picture of my yellow streaked lorry [I think they have a similar shape]

He's got purple on his rump and purple sheen all over. Yellow and red under tail feather. He is VERY hard to take pictures of if your not holding him. He doesn't ever stop moving, he's like a kid on sugar high....He does NOT do play stands!!!!! He prefers to be on me me me....He's a sweet angel but he can be the devil too when his hormone hits. Don't make him mad, he'll come chasing after you, he's not afraid to show it either. Other then the poop mess hell he makes, he's a wonderful bird to have! Not good talking ability! He just squeaks all the time and he can have a shrill scream. He does NOT get along with other birds, it is not wise to have them out while he is out, he's gonna hop over acting all curious and all, then bam he jumps them. They tend to sulk, that's the word the Australian breeder told me who helped me when I first got him since there wasn't a whole lot of information on them on the web. I had a hard time when I first got him cause he ended up just barely weaned and was begging a lot then all the stores here stopped carrying nectar so I ordered some from online and it came to be damaged. I broke down crying cause my baby was hungry, he kept begging and it got to me. I finally got ahold of few bags from a breeder friend thank god. Then my order came in good shape this time. He's a wonderful wonderful bird to have, I wouldn't trade him for the world..... :)
