Gandalf - CAG (1997-2010) R.I.P. my baby boy.
Bitty - CAG (2 yrs old? and working on spoiling her rotten)
Well, nothing spectacular about it...she doesn't have any special powers or anything.

However, while scritching her last night, I noticed she has a red feather peeking out halfway down her neck on the left side. It only appears if I lift the other feathers out of the way, so I don't know if I'll ever get a good photo of it. (I'll try.)

I was wondering if anybody's else' Grey has any of these, or is Bitty just a total FREAK?! :D

Ha, ha...not a freak...at least as far as I know. Mariah has some red feathers on the top of her neck too...
I've heard two different theories on the "red factor", one is that it's a genetic thing and just pops up every now and then...the other is that it's from some type of folicle damage to the feather. That's what I figure happened with Mariah because she is known to sometimes pull out feathers from the top of her neck.

My guy doesn't have any red feathers other than in his tail, but I seen many Grey's with the misc. red feather. I don't think its that unusual.

I loved the title!!!! Mutant bird! :)

I'm glad you posted this, because Trixie just had her first "mutant" feather come since we got her last July, and I was wondering the same thing!

Mishka has little red feathers all over his chest, they are becoming darker I have noticed. Will try take a pic today, just so hard if he does not stand still.

Okay here goes, not the best of pictures, tried to get him while he was climbing in his cage, not an easy task.
