Thanks to everyone who responded to my earlier question about chain mesh gloves.
Do you have any tips for stopping a cockatoo from biting?
I have a male Umbrella cockatoo, hand reared, for 20 years. He is very attached to me, and becomes jealous if my partner comes near me. Lately he has become more aggressive towards me. He few at my face a few weeks back, giving me a black eye. And now he has given me a nasty bite on the thumb, which makes me wary of handling him.
I suspect it may be a hormonal thing; I know male cockatoos can get aggressive around puberty, although it doesn't seem to be seasonal. I also think he may be lacking in a routine. (I work as a carer, and my job makes it difficult for me to give him much structure.)
Has anyone got any advice?
Thank you.
