Biting and Feet

General question, how does anyone get around with cockatoos biting toes? Justine seems to always run to my toes when I am laying on the bed. She will just bold to them and start to bite them. Sometimes she is ok but sometimes I can't stop her. When I put on socks she also goes for the socks.. I usually just grab her beak and say no biting. She will stop for about 10 seconds then go for it again..

Any Ideas or tips?

Oh, wow... we just had a thread on toe-biting... let me see if I can find it for ya!

This is why I don't use the footstool when Rocky's on my lap. He has an unfortunate fascination with toes. I don't know why, but it's best to just remove temptation. I have a starling who does that, too, but her pecking doesn't hurt nearly as much!

I have something large, like a notebook, at hand and just shove them away (gently but firmly) and then distract them with something else. Mine are conures and IRNs, not Cockatoos, but we still don't like having our toes bitten :)

Our CAG does this to my husband. He gets a warning then Mr. Towel and a time out in his cage. He has learned enough that now just a warning "do you want Mr. Towel?" Is enough for him to rethink biting.

My GCC does this as well.

I asked about it in the general forum and the answer seems to be "TOES ARE THE DEVIL"

Which fits with Stephen's view of them certainly. "Oh, hey, I see toes. Lemme just run over and remove them for you mmm'kay?"

One of my friend had this same experience what he did was to say " no toes" and taught her, another was to show a stick. best option I would say is avoid situation where he has access to yor feet. if he disturbs you when you are on bed, then no bed for him, simple. Let him earn these place he wishes to be he should not be allowed.

I think I found Justin's Cryptonite.. My Guitar.. She was back at my house for a while and I noticed when I was playing guitar she would flap her wings and run to the corner of the bed or as far as she could get.. Then one day she kept trying to get on the floor.. I put my guitar on the floor next to my bed and all she did was stare down at it and not move... .. LOL..
