Sun conure "Rocky"
Does anyone have an idea on how long a sun conure will go through puberty for?

Rocky is about 8months old now and I recon he's hit puberty lol

8 months sounds a little early for a sun conure, but it wouldn't be the first time. Do you think he might be molting, and therefor uncomfortable and grumpy about it?

If it is puberty or mating hormones, though, avoid touching "sensitive" areas, like the back, wings, under the wings, etc. Just the neck/head is fine for scratches.

If he's getting nesty, don't let him get in small dark areas.(Happy huts, boxes, drawers, in your clothes, etc.)

Make sure you're providing plenty of toys and perhaps some new ones, and swapping them around so that he has plenty to keep busy with. :) My conures love chewing on plastic straws.

Suns usually hit puberty at 2 years of age (or so I've read). I'm not sure how long it lasts. My sun is 2 years, 4 months old. I can definitely say he entered puberty at about 1 year, 10 months. He gets into his ornery moods sometimes but I haven't experienced the classic hormonal horror stories I've read about yet (hope I never will!)
