Bird Safe Fragrance?

I have read all the stuff about nonstick pans and scented candles being terrible for birds. But I was wondering if there are things that can be used. Lysol? Carpet fresheners? Perfumes? Oils? (The kind you warm over a heat source).

I'm personally more of a 'natural' scent person myself and rarely use those things. But every so often I do like to freshen the place or wear perfume or lotion. However if I have to give those things up, some alternatives would be nice. I don't think my friends and family would appreciate coming over to all the different animl smell. (Dog, cat, reptiles, bird, fish, ect)

Most of the time when the house needs a fresh smell. I use all the peels from his fruit. The Orange and apple. Put on a pot on the stove on low simmer with some cinnamon. It works its way into everything and smells so good.
As far as perfume or lotion I am not sure. First thing I do when coming home from work is shower so anything I had on is gone and would not bother them.

Oh and lemon can also be added

I attended a Open House for a bird rescue in my town (sadly, it has to close its doors). Anyway, one of the products featured at the open house was a soy-based "sprinkle" from a company called Pink Zebra. Here is the website:

Per their website and the Pink Zebra representative at the open house, these sprinkles are supposed to be safe for birds. You melt the wax sprinkles in an electric simmer pot. The only danger with the simmer pot is that you have hot, melted wax in an open container that can be spilled or knocked over.

I used Pink Zebra sprinkles all the time when my Taylor was alive. She never had any issues with it. My simmer pot was about 15 ft away from her cage. I kept it hidden behind a pot in our kitchen where I keep my bigger kitchen utensils - a place where Taylor couldn't get to it and where it wasn't easy to knock over.

Oooh, those are neat! Would doing the warm oil or reed diffusers be any different though?

That sounds excellent! A realtor taught me a similar trick with vanilla extract added in the pot as you specified.

I like to put a mug with a bit of vanilla extract in a 300 degree oven for 5 minutes. Your house will smell like baking cookies! You can add cinnamon sticks or brown sugar too it as well for extra umph

Better safe than sorry. I know the fruit in water with some added spice works and will not hurt him .
