In the past when someone was sick I sprayed things down with Lysol. I'm assuming it will hurt the parrot. So what do you use? Can you remove the bird, spray and then bring him back in later? Hubby has step throat and the rest of us don't want it!

In non bird rooms I use normal cleaners and keep te bird away til the smell is gone, but in bird room/livingroom (and bird stuff) I use F10 spray. It's pretty easy to find in online.
It's non scented, kills bacteria and fungal spores. It's advertised as used by vets whenever I see it.

(copy , paste from the Amazon page for F10sc/super concentrate):
"F10 is non-corrosive, non-toxic, non-irritating and aldehyde free so has no adverse effects on people, animals, equipment or surfaces. It has been proven effective at recommended concentrations against all types of bacteria, fungi and spores including MRSA, avian influenza, psittacine beak and feather disease, canine parvovirus, e.coli, aspergillus and a host of others.
F10SC (super concentrate) veterinary disinfectant is an EPA approved hospital grade disinfectant. It is used in many of the world's leading veterinary hospitals and zoo's."

It's not a great "cleaner", i have some poop-off for that and a soapy, disinfected dishcloth.

I don't know if it's cheaper anywhere else for you but there's the US Amazon page for it.
(I don't get mine from UK Amazon though)

EDIT: I just had a quick look, MySafeBirdtore.com has this stuff.

Step throat? Is that something like hoof and mouth disease?:32::30::white1:

Yep F10SC is what we use at the shelter during quarantine. There is also a cleaner version called F10SCXD.

So if I clean (I use a baking soda, lemon juice formula) and then stay with F10 I should be good. Thank you, now I just have to find some!
