I've read that several here volunteer with shelters and rescues. I have been looking on the internet to see if there are any south east of Houston, TX. Haven't found much so I'm asking if anyone is familiar with any in the Houston area. I found a couple, one for north Texas and one associated with the Bay Area SPCA. I would like to visit and see if volunteering is something I would like to do. If I don't get any tips, I'll call my vet and the SPCA to see what they tell me. I would like to volunteer with birds, thanks.

Big kudos to you for wanting to get involved! ! Most shelters list themselves on petfinder. I would go there and do a search for birds for adoption. That will hopefully give you some shelters in driving distance!

That is actually how we became aware of the shelter we are involved with.

Wish I could give you a list of shelters but I am a bit far.

Good luck! ! Post updates, love to hear how you are enjoying volunteering :)

Hello and thank you for looking into volunteer work at the parrot shelters. There are several shelters in the Houston area but I'm too far away to have personal experience with any of them. The only one I know enough about to recommend is NPRPF, National Parrot Rescue and Preservation Foundation. I'm not sure how far you would have to drive to that one. I would look on line and make a list and visit the ones that interest you. I'm sure they would appreciate a new volunteer. Good Luck.
