Will soon have a sun conure
hi there, my sun conure sugar has very watery poop which I am worried about. she mainly eats pellets, fruit and some veg. I was wondering if anybody had any birdy meals that I could give her instead of having open feed (always available). I do notice that she doesn't drink much water and loves fruit. we have just come back from shopping and have stocked up on vegies. could you please make a list of good fruit and veg that I could give her. thank you:)

My sun (who i just got a wk ago) has very watery poop too. He eats mostly pellets. I took him on Tues for a well bird check up and asked the vet about it, as i was concerned. He said conures just have watery poop. Not as liquid as lories, but definitely jucier then other species and that i shouldn't worry.

Maybe you are giving her to much fruit. When my Sun eats a lot of fruit and not enough veggies she gets watery poop. Normally it is looser then my GC but not watery. I give my birds mash in the morning and for dinner they get chopped salad with a spouted mix, pellets and a little fruit. There can be a lot of sugar in fruit and that isn't good for them. If you are really concerned you should take her to the vet.

If you feed him produce it's normal to have watery poops but not 100% of the time. If he's on dry food mostly, watch for the healthy separation of urates (white stuff), clear liquid and tubular usually dark green stool. If he continues to have watery poop even on a predominantly dry diet, you might consider taking him to the vet for a check up.

You seem to be freaking out a tad, have you taken your bird to the vet, ever?
If you are really worried take it to the vet.
But it all sounds very normal.

Try relaxing, and not being so very nervous about your bird, enjoy it

hi guys. thanks for your posts. I have started to give her ALOT more vegies and it seems to be fine. I am just new to parrot ownership and even though I read almost every website possible, I still worry:) what's a new mamma meant to do?

Sign if a good parront! :) just keep an eye. Some poop has more urates (urine) than others, so it looks loose. If the watery part is clear it's ok. Hold a piece of white tissue to the watery part and let it soak in for a few secs. If its clear, it's usually ok. :)

Dyes found in pellets can cause droppings to be unformed. A bird under stress may have watery droppings.

As long as the fecal portion of the poop is formed and healthy looking, it's normally "ok" if there is excess water every now and then. It is a concern if it happens frequently, however.
