In April my family is repainting 2 rooms in the house. We are going to use low/no VOC paints. How many days should I keep the Conures away from the house? We figure about 2 days after the painting is done before they can come home.

During the painting we are taking our birds to a bird boarding facility near our home. They have their own cages and they are in a separate room from their other birds. Has anyone ever done this? I'm terrified my babies with think I have abandoned them :( :( unfortunately I don't have big enough travel cages to keep them at a friend's house, and have them be comfortable :(

Archie has been to holiday boarding twice. Once at a local lady's who does boarding and once for 2 weeks at the vets we use. He was much more settled at the vets (probably because he knows them).

He was just very glad to see us when we picked him up [emoji4]

I am contemplating spending the money and just buying larger travel cages and keeping then at my friend's house with us. Because my room will be in the process of painting I'm staying at his place. Maybe I'll just bring my guys with me. I won't feel so bad

Boarding isn't cheap so you can probably pick up large travel cages for the price you would pay to board [emoji4]

If you're using no VOC paints, you can bring the birds back after 24 hours. In fact, even if you're able to put them in a room across the house with good ventilation, they'll be fine. I painted my entire place before Shiko came home using no VOC paint. Paint only off-gases while it dries, and no VOC paint produces no off-gas. But for my own peace of mind I didn't put my birds back until the paint had been dried for a whole day. That being said, they were on the floor above (we rent a basement suite). Just make sure both the primer or 2-in-1 paint is VOC free if you do keep them in the house.
