Bird #2 - Which do I get?

I already have my wonderful Darwin who's an orange wing amazon, but I'm wanting to get another bird sometime this next year. The three I've been thinking about are: African Grey, Eclectus (female), or Blue and Gold Macaw. I read extensively about all three and have had some wonderful encounters with a B&G, and a Grey. I haven't met an Eclectus, yet. Anyway, I would love to hear from someone about your experiences and if you have an amazon and another bird what it might be. I know I've got to make the decision, but it's so hard. All three of the ones I'm considering are wonderful birds. Oh, whichever I get will be a baby. I feel a baby will be easier to bring into our home with Darwin than another grown bird. Any thoughts?[/COLOR][/COLOR]

Your choices are good. I have had a wonderful time and bonded well with Rosie, my Timneh AG. She is so smart and easy to care for. TAG's need lots of stimulation and attention. She still loves to cuddle at almest 1 year of age. Talking is coming along too. Good luck in making your decision.

All three of those choices are great, those are all great birds. If you want to cuddle, get a Grey or a Macaw. If raised from babies, its amazing how much both species love to cuddle. It's a hard decision between the two. I you just want someone to talk to, then get an Eclectus. They become incredibly talkitive when they leearn new words.

Greys are the great talkers, and Macaws are the full-time clowns, and the Eclectus are great talkers as well. If you need more information, I suggest Avianweb as a good resource.

Great choices! I have owned/rehomed a B&G and an about 4 african greys. (Im not crazy, i just used to be a volunteer with FFARRA) and to be honest- I LOVE AFRCAN GREYS! They are vey cuddly, and fun and... just so cute.. = ) Haha, hope i helpedd.. Somewhat. =)

Thanks everybody! I think it's down to the grey or the B&G. I'm kinda leaning toward the grey, but since it's about a year away I'm not rushing my decision.

how about a timneh african grey or a yellow collared mini macaw,,,there same size range of amzion,,both are lovable birds

We have all three. They are all equally smart, talkative, and clever. The only difference is that the Eclectus will chew up toys the least, then the Grey, and the B&Gold will chew the most (both because of its size and that's what they do: recycle the rain forest into mulch - LOL!) As well, the Gold will require "larger" everything, which is no big deal if you have the cash.

My advise is to try and find these baby birds and see if one bonds at first sight - that's when both you and the bird's hearts go pitter-pat. This is special way to find a bird, aside from all the mechanical and practical considerations.

best advice ever... When you're ready to make the move start visiting around and when you find the right one you will know.

This happened with my teil - she really did pick me and 8 years later I've never met a more tame teil. With my second bird I hadn't exactly narrowed it down I knew I wanted a medium conure sized bird, and when i ran across sidney's picture online i knew he was the one for me. We've been best friends for 3 years now. My 3rd birdy was a rescue/adoption and we're still working to build a bond, but he's made remarkable progress in his first year with me.
