Bf amazon
I tried a pet taxi for hauling rescued bf amazon but with it bein dark inside he is really scared and wont go in it. I bought a collapsable dog kennel/carrier will this be ok? i can actually put a perch and toys in it...the bar spacing is 1 3/8in...

I would say that bar spacing is too large. He could get his head through the bars and get hurt. Also reach through and chew on near by things, some of which may not be safe. You can add a perch to the pet taxi by running a screw through each side of the plastic into the ends of a wooden perch. Have you tried setting the taxi on top of the cage and putting food dishes inside.Let him get used to it on his own. Most of my zons don't really dislike dark" hidey holes" especially the hens. What ever travel cage you use, i'd let them get used to it before i need to really use it.Then keep the first few trips short and fun.

What would be a short fun trip to him?

Have you thought about different carriers that aren't so dark? Or what about a small cage with a large door that he could temporarily use?

Until you can train him to use the pet taxi, I'd think it would be better to use something he would go into.

I think he could get used to the pet carrier, he just has to do it on his own.The most important thing is to get one that's safe and he'll use when you need it. What ever you decide on, place it on top on his cage and let him adjust to it and be at"home" with it. Short trip? carry him to the mail box, go around the block and come home to a treat. Sing and carry on with him while driving. Does he "sing" to the radio? Try to make it fun and keep it short for the first few times.

What I did to introduce Pepper to her travel cage was I had it sitting in the room for a few days. That way she knew it wasn't a predator. She is highly suspicious of new objects. Then I would treat her for being on top of it. Then I put her favorite tidbits in the bowls inside and encouraged her to go in and get them. That was a big step and that took many times. She was comfy perching on the open door before that.
But when she was in there on her perch and could see her food and water bowls, I think then she decided it was ok. she is not thrilled to go in it, but she knows she gets a treat whenever she does so she puts up with it.

Thank you guys! He has a play gym on the top of his cage so I started puttin it n a cairo and setting it by the cage door so he can go in easily And it's been working great! I scatter treats all over the bottom and each time he goes in farther and farther! I will give it a few days before closing the door on him...but when I do I think. Trip to the mailbox would b great! He hasn't sang to the radio yet buy seems to love when I sing. He's only been with us for 1.5 months so I think he's still warming up to us!!
