Saturday, Chico and I had a close call with a cat. While sitting outside on a low wall enjoying the morning sun, a neighbors cat had sneaked up from behind. I was sitting there staring right at Chico. The cat was within a few feet of jumping my bird before I was even aware of his presence. I remember shuddering at the thought of what could have happened. Chico was harnessed and well within arms distance. Be careful out there. Cats are lethal hunters and birds especially fascinate them.

This is one reason my bird cannot go outside, the neighbors cat. They allow it to wander about. I am totally against cats being allowed to roam not just because my bird cant enjoy outside cage time but because the cat can be hit by traffic and crawls on peoples property like their cars

That was a close call, good for you both. I second the motion of cats remaining indoors. I have three myself, two of which go out on harness and leash. People wouldn't think of letting their dogs run loose, I don't know why cats are different.

Thank you for putting the warning out there. I couldn't agree more! Sometimes danger lurks when we least expect it, don't see it and don't hear it coming - and cats CAN BE predators, especially feral ones.

So glad your outing had a happy ending. :)

My daughter has a cat that lives in my house with Chico. Fortunately Clover is afraid of the bird. On the rare occasion when both are in the same room, I always keep an eye on the cat and remind the daughter to do the same thing. I think Chico has gotten use to cats as it would have been nice if he had let out one of his 'stranger danger' squawks at the neighbors cat to teach it a lesson.

I wasn't mad at the cat. It was just doing what cats do.
