Best quality pellets, and how many pounds of food should I get for the month?

Can someone tell me where they buy there bird food? I was reading an article online, and it seems that pet chain food has hidden poisons in them, my gosh! It's scary what they put in human, and animal food. So, if you can point me to some good quality/organic pellets, that are affordable (Usually affordable and organic don't go together but its worth it) please let me know.

Also, I like to buy in bulk, it saves, how much pounds of pellets do you need for your medium sized birds, tiels, conures, etc Thanks.

I feed a mix of harrisons and roudybush. Harrisons is organic. I bought it from mysafebirdstore.com. there's a promo code to be found if you look around the site. I thinks its still usa right now. I bought 5 pounds of harrisons and 3 pounds of roudybush. I mixed the bags (they both fit back into the harrisons bag sort of lol) then put it into a plastic container. I keep it in the freezer to keep it fresh, and keep a weeks worth at a time in the fridge where its easier to get to. The price is definately better when you buy more. For River who eats maybe a tablespoon or so a day, he's got food for a very long time!

Is lafaber a good brand?

I don't know much about Lafaber as a primary diet, but I know their treats are good.

Roudybush, Harrisons, and Zupreem are often listed as some of the top pelleted foods. Of these Auggie only likes Zupreem, which works great for me as it may be a bit cheaper than the others, and is certainly far more available. Zupreem can be found at nearly any pet store, while the Roudybush is hard to find and Harrisons is almost exclusively sold by veterinarians.

Are these any good. It says for medium bird to large. Is that small enough for a conure?

This is what I feed ZuPreem AvianMaintenance FruitBlend Premium Bird Diet for Medium & Large Birds at PETCO and our black cap eats it just fine, and he is smaller than a GCC. I actually want to try the nut blend, I have a coupon for it for (i think) $3.50 off a bag, which is just awesome. I got the coupon out of a bag of food but you may be able to find it online as well. The other really cool thing is that it doesn't expire for another year or so.

Absolutely no judgement here on what anyone feeds! I have heard a few people on this forum recommend avoiding the fruit blend zupreem because of the artificial colors/chemicals which make it smell and look like fruit loops (that's why I and my bird liked it ) I had a bird on this for 10 years, though. I feed Hagen Tropican extruded pellets now which uses coloring from carrots and spirulina to make it 'sort' of exciting. I know extruded pellets are supposed to be the best - I am no food expert! for the bird which is hard to switch to pellets Hagen makes a Tropimix which is 100% edible and has no sunflower seeds or peanuts. It's dried grains, veggies, and fruit mixed with their Tropican pellets. Good stuff IMO!

If you are looking for pure organic pelleted bird food stop with Harrisons. Best prices are on mysafebirdstore.com. I have had a 5 pound bag of pellets for 5 months now (fine) and its now getting low. Larger pellets go faster of course.

Baby (bare-eyed cockatoo) goes through a 3.5 lb bag of the Zupreem Large Parrot pellets every 3-5 weeks, depending on how faithfully I offer him fresh fruits and veggies, and whether anyone's been sneaking him bits of pasta (his favorite) behind my back. But most of it goes into the grate at the bottom of the cage. I suspect the bright colors make it more fun to throw around than his toys.

I just started my alex Jimmy on harrison's a week ago, he LOVES them. I thought he'd be a bit fussy but nope he gets very excited when i put the dish in his cage. He enjoys a mix of the coarse and fine high potency, as well as all his usual fruit and veges
