We adopted our first U2 yesterday. Her owner passed away so all we know is she’s 13 and her name is Kaya.

We have an amazon and an IRN, but cockatoos are so different. Can anyone suggest which book is the best for learning more about her? (By the way she seems to LOVE the other birds).

I have learned that she only eats pellets so we will slowly work on some variety, but as far as bathing and other routine maintenance, I feel like I need to know more. I’m sure most care will be similar to the amazon, but the first difference I noticed yesterday was “the dust”.

I appreciate any Species Specific resources you could fly my way. [emoji4]

Cockatoos and specifically U2s are different! You'll likely enjoy a "honeymoon" period followed by a very spirited bird! I don't know of specific books, but this forum has a wealth of cockatoo and large bird experience.

What type of pellet? Most pellets are far better than seeds, but a diet rich with fresh vegetables and some fruits is ideal in conjunction with dry food. If she is set in her ways, much coaxing and creativity will be required.

Toos are indeed "dusty" and you may need a good quality air cleaner if bothersome to you or your other birds. They are generally voracious chewers and can be very vocal!
