Beloved Senegal shedding an unusual amount of feathers

I'm hoping I'm fussing unnecessarily but we have noticed over the last week that my 24 year old Senegal seems to be shedding an unusual number of feathers.

He's in excellent health, as chirpy and as full of mischief as I could hope, not fretting with his feathers in any way but seems to be moulting unusually. He has not developed any bald patches anywhere and his skin appears healthy. He is eating well as always.

It has been ridiculously warm in these parts and as a result we have been pulling the curtains a bit more than normal. I did wonder if a lack of natural light or the heat might be responsible.

I'd be glad of any advice.

It is more likely the higher temperatures than the curtains.

Our Amazon has be causing a near snowstorm with his downy feathers. It has been very warm here in the Great White North of North America. Above normal warm weather arrived in late June and we are hear that it will be well into September before we start to slide toward more normal temperatures.

So, if it is a combination of downy and body feathers its likely just the higher temperatures. However, if you are seeing bare areas, it a quick trip to the Avian Vet.

Thanks. It is mainly his soft feathers with the occasional wing or body feather although no more than usual of the wing feathers. We began to remark on it when we found we were picking up more of his lovely yellow chest feathers which we seldom see during a normal moult. Fortunately no bald patches so far but we'd already agreed if we saw any patches he'd but up the vet. We do spritz him regularly - fortunately he loves it. We are lucky that he's really sweet tempered so that helps.

Thank you for your advice. We were just a little bit concerned when he seemed to be shedding more feathers than normal and thought we'd check out some advice.

My birds are moulting really heavily as well this year. I agree with Sailboat, sounds like a moult, especially since there are no bald spots:)

Even tho BB is still a youngster, and is attempting to get his first set of adult clothes on..he seems to be leaving his old clothes everywhere! Hardly anything from his arms or tail yet..put a whole bunch of body and face "fluff" And it has been extremely hot here in CT for some time.
