I recently ordered some things online for bird toys. Included in the package are "finger traps" and as soon as i opened the package i noticed they had a strange smell. It was almost a faint soapy kind of smell? Worried, I ended up emailing the place i got them from. They assured me they are bird safe products although couldn't understand the smell i asked about. The rest of the stuff seems fine and they said they gave their birds the very same product i was worried about as they packaged my stuff. What do you think?

Could it be the packaging? If they were in plastic, that might have been it. Other than that I'm not sure. If it seems minor enough I'd probably ignore it, but if you really feel uncomfortable there's no shame in trashing them. Better safe than sorry if you're really concerned about it.

Just regular plastic postage bag. It only seems to be the finger traps, the loofah etc seems to smell normal.

Im not sure what they are made of. Although i have realized the ones that have been aired out a little seem to smell fine now... or maybe its just that i cant smell it anymore because of my cold... haha

That is strange, maybe you can bleach them and wash them off or put them in the dishwasher.

I'd be more worried about the toxic effects of bleach, than the smell...

I'd wash them with ordinary dish soap myself.
