Behaviour Question

Hello Everyone,

My name is Tom and I suddenly became the forever foster home of an adult BFA, he/she was in a rescue center and after a very long consideration, I adopted him.

Since a kid I've been around parrots, even now in adulthood, I work in a zoo, so I'm confident things will work out just fine with Awá (the name honors one of the lasts Indian tribes of the Amazon forest).

After carefully reading most of your threads, which I found extremely helpful, I still have a behavioral question, Awá does this sort of bowing movement every time she sees me. Is it a positive behavior or is he trying to tell me to stay away?

She already step up, receives food from me, and even lets me groom her whenever she feels like it, but this behaviour I´m mentioning leaves me puzzled, here is a video (not mine) where a BFA does the exact same thing, in the title says is a flirting behaviour but I wanted to hear what you think about it:

Looking forward to hearing your comments.

Kindest regards and thank you all for all the threads and posts, they've been very helpful.

Tom, :green:

This is similar to what my (probably female) baby BFA does when I pet her.

if exactly like in the video I'm going to go out on a limb and say she's asking for a scritch. See how she reacts to it?

Hello, and thank you very much for your replies: LordTriggs & Ladyhawk.

Apparently, she does it when she sees me handling food or leaving the house or if stress out because of a noise or something like that, she is not completely comfortable with me touching her, so if any of your experiences indicates this behaviour could be pointing a stressful situation I would very much appreciate if you tell me.

Thank you very much for your help!

Kindest regards,

Just as a conformation of the Behavior. It is a combination behavior statements of: Great to see you, come here please, I want that (treat, toy, etc.)

Welcome to the wonderful world of Amazons, who do indeed have more fun. Take your time, learn what your BFA is saying ( body language) and know that with patience , love and treats you can get your amazon to do anything. Ask as many questions as you may have. Be welcomed.

Yep. Happy to see you, come and pick me up.
And I would venture a guess your bird is a girl.

Petting her on the back should be kept to a minimum or she might start laying eggs.

I think you got "chosen " by a beautiful bird.

Yep.

That's amazon for pick me up!
