Hi. Been a while since Ive been on here, I own a green cheek, and have noticed... well hilarious behavior from him... or possibly her... lately.

Ive seen it in other birds Ive owned in the past too but never thought much of it before.

Basically he'll...learn forwards really slowly stretching his neck right out and fluffing his feathers up then lean backwards doing the same thing, and repeat, sometimes leaning in various angles, sometimes leaning so far forwards it looks like he should fall off his perch.

Now it gets funnier.... if hes sat there and I do the same kind of leaning motion to him he'll immediately make his way over to me and start doing it in front of me... sometimes walking up and down a perch like hes strutting with his feathers puffed up before stopping to do it.

Now I find it hilarious, but I am wondering what the heck it actually means in terms of bird body language.

I bought him like may last year and he was born november 2014, so hes like a year and 4ish months old. Hes mostly tame, in the sense that he'll come to me and sit on me but is hand shy (unless I have food in said hand) and if I approach him he'll back off.

Hopefully this isn't some kind of mating ritual behavior haha

My male green cheek does this too. I don't know what the real reason is, but he does it with anyone he likes when he is happy and wants to show off. I think it's a "look how big, tough and sexy I am" dance :)

haha if its just as simple as that then cool

It's a good dance :)

With Beau, if you catch his eye while he's dancing and dance along, he will perfectly mirror you. So much fun.

My female YSGCC does something similar when she wants me to scratch her neck or face. Wonder if there is a connection.

haha that would be annoying tbh, since he wont let me near him with my hand... if I hold food he'll come over but if i then stretch a finger to him or whatever he backs off, definitely not one for the hands. So if he wants a scratch, no good then backing away

I did expect that to happen though, the pet shop worker wasnt very subtle getting him out of the cage to box when I bought him
