I have to ask, when it's bedtime, does your Macaw sleep in a cage? Also do you cover it? I've read some people don't, just wondering about everyone here.

Cappy hates bedtime. She tries everything to not go inside climbing around, talking, loving, knocking the cover down. The jabbering and crying when I cover her cage...ugh

The previous owners said they always done that and I know it's typical to cover your birds at night. But they are not a typical bird.

She does go in on her own during the day to get something if she wants to so I don't think it's a complete fear of the cage.

I get yelled at if we even a few minutes late for bed. I know when it's time because he climbs in his own cage and settles in. No cover.

Ivan is lucky...his night time cage is in a room we don't use at night...off to the cage..a few loving words...door stays open...close the door...see ya in the morning...Bill

No Cover . I have to make sure BB is inside the cage when sun sets or he will try to roost ANYWHERE LOL

Would it be wrong to not cage her? She is really being difficult tonight since she found a perch in the living room she likes.

I had to check on her, opened the door and she didn't move a feather. Still perched on the child gate, I walked by and everything to get a glass of water.

Came back through and again no movement. A quiet little squeak came from her.

I stay awake most of the night and you can hear every move she makes thru the door during the day so I'll be listening.

Wondering if we will get a wake up call at 6am.

She done fine last night and this morning. Actually she hasn't left that perch all morning except once to eat on top of her cage.

She's down on the floor now trying to sneak up on me to tap my foot to say "Hello" and "hehehe"

Sounds like things are working out. I know personally I have to work so cage free is not a option for me.

Well she found a new bed tonight. She was on our bed playing with us. Then she went to our laundry basket. I moved it just outside our door and she fell asleep in it.
