Bathing in Ice Cold Water

Erin just last month start taking interest in grooming. Now she cares for her nails and bathes in her water bowl daily. But the bathing thing is kinda odd. When Erin and I get in a shower it is steaming. We both love hot temperatures and water. I refill her water bowl everyday, sometimes twice a day, and it never gets dirty. She went through a one week phase where she pooped in it one day and the rest of the week she was dropping food in it- gross! Then she stopped though. So I just fill it up when it's less than half full. I've always put ice cold water in it for drinking, and the past month she's been bathing in it too. And not waiting for it to get room temperature, just as soon as I put it on her stand, when it's freezing she has starts bathing! ow uncomfortable and cold, and unlike her. but she's been doing it for a month now. ANy one elses' refer their bathes icey or know a reason whpy she's been doing this?

I've heard of birds who wont bath in water unless there's ice cubes in it! I recall one story of a breeder of budgies who sold one of her birds. After a year or so, the budgies owner died and the bird went back to the breeder. The breeder kept the budgie as a pet and would give the bird numerous opportunities to bath, and the bird was never interested. Then one day, while drinking iced tea, the budgie tried to bath in the glass. Not wanting to miss out on an opportunity for the bird to have a 'proper bath', the breeder went and got the budgie a dish full of cold water! Bird was not interested. Then it "clicked" and the breeder added ice cubes, and the budgie was the happiest little thing!


Hot water isn't actually good for their skin (nor ours, for that matter, but I do so enjoy my hot showers!), and out in the wild, most birds probably have cold to warm (not hot) bathes anyway - depending on the temperature of the area when it rains. It's natural for them to bath in cool or cold water.


My mitred conure once decided to bath in ice cold water right as the sun was going down! The room had already darkened somewhat, but he still wanted his bath! I could only shake my head and walk away!

ReaRea's kinda wacko about that too. She doesn't care what the water temp is, she wants IN!!! Crazy bird will stalk you if you take a shower/bath. She will literally knock on the shower door with her beak to be let in. :31::54:

ROFLMAO. I can honestly visualize that.

In the summer all my fids get bathed outside, with the garden hose (setting on mist). Each and every one of them LOVE it and can never get enough, even though the water is VERY cold.

yea, it's gotten to the point where if Rea's loose and I go into the bathroom (for anything) :54: I will soon be hearing her walking down the hallway.....
