Bath question

I've now had Daisy Mae for 5 days. She is SOOO darn precious...and lovable! I have 2 other birds...a Quaker and a Lovebird so I'm accustomed to the smell of a bird and it's feathers. However, Daisy has a much stronger smell. And perhaps it's just that she is a bigger bird. Can any of you tell me what you provide your bird as far as bathing goes? I noticed the local shop has a "parrot bath spray" that I suppose I could mist her with. My other birds bathe in their water dish and then I change it when they're done. I've also seen shower perches. Any thoughts would be great. :green: ~~~Tonia & Daisy Mae :D

Amazons are addicting LOL

Plain water is best, I use a mister with Bosley or a Garden hose outside weather permitting.
Amazons emit a certain scent from their nares sometimes. I love the smell and it is kind of hard to describe, it a sweet musky smell. It's not always there and it's not from their feathers.

This is interesting! Never heard this before. Is there a purpose for it?

They are not sure of the purpose, if any.
Jersey Wendy and myself would love to bottle it up!! Here's an excerpt from a fact sheet.

Another note of interest is that Amazon parrots do not have a preening gland, yet there feathers are water resistant.

Interesting Facts and Quirks:

Amazon parrots have a distinct odor that seems to emanate from their respitory system. This odor is not unpleasant and those who adore Amazon parrots often associate this smell with something good. The odor is most noticeable near their nares. The purpose for this odor is not known at this time, as most birds do not have many receptors for scent.

Oh and even though most birds don't "seem" to have the receptors for scent, Bosley sure knows when dinner is on, I know he smells it. LOL

One more question. Is there a way to introduce showering with me, that wouldn't be traumatic??

I bring Bosley into the bathroom with me on his T-stand, I use a mister for him when he is there. I invite him into the shower, but he usually just wants to stay on his stand. To make it less traumatic I always stop misting if he seems agitated(usually he gets right into it) The steam from the shower is also good for the skin and feathers.

This way he always get some misting and some days he gets really in to it.He loves the sound of the running water so he is always happy to just be in the bathroom.

Tonia, thank you for the laugh I just had, at your expense.....

Take a look at your question, from someone else's viewpoint...not yours.....

I really enjoy how people sometimes say 'the darnedest things' & leave themselves wide open.....

Anyway, thank you.....

Believe me, my big Macs haven't gone blind (yet), so I'm sure you'll be ok. :D

my boy Parker. also a BF zon , Loves taking showers or being misted he is about the same age ad your daisy mae I would just get a shower perch put it in the shower put her on the perch but not to where the water is directly on her then get in and let the water kind of mist off you and onto her also make it look fun being a zon and a young one at that she should take to it right away
