Hi,
I have noticed some bugs that appear to be going after my bird's food. No matter how often I clean the area the bugs remain there. I read that baking soda kills bugs, so I wanted to put some around his cage. Does anyone know if it's safe for parrots? 💡:white1:

Baking soda is not found on toxic lists. It is an ingredient often used in safe birdie bread recipes. In miniscule amounts it is safe for parrots even if ingested. I can only imagine in large amounts or straight from the package, it could be very dangerous if not toxic.

I don't know if it would be an effective bug deterrent. I would only use it in areas where you are certain your U2 can't possibly get to it.

Yes, I think I will try it on areas he doesn't go on. Who knows, maybe it will help.

One of the basics regarding controlling bugs in bags of parrot dry food is Freezing it for anywhere from a week to over a month prior to use. We choose to Freeze for at least a full month. In addition, we keep any unused amounts in the Freezer. We pull only enough for a couple of days and as stated everything else is in the Freezer.

All of the Toxic Lists assume that Baking Soda will be used as part of, well something baked! No one assumes that it would be used directly out of the can! Yes, one can place a 'box' in the cooler to control odors, but that's it.

Kill the bugs at their source!

Wow! I knew to freeze nuts and seeds but I didn't know they could get into pellets too... Thanx much!:)

My vet told me to freeze all food....pellets, seed, bread, anything that can spoil. I only have one small bird, so do the fresh fruit and veggies daily. But everything else comes out of the freezer..
