Baby lorikeet - no poop?

Hey everyone!

Since saturday I've had a baby rainbow lorikeet. He's now six and a half weeks old. He's just getting used to being hand-fed. We fed him yesterday at around 21:00, and this morning at 7:00. I can see he pooped yesterday after we put him back in his cage, but he hasn't pooped this morning yet. We fed him two hours ago and since then he's been in his cage for 30 minutes and on my shoulder for an hour.
Should I be worried, or am I just being paranoid?

A vet visit never hurts anyone but your wallet. So yeah, a well check up can not hurt.

I'm going to take him to the vet anyway in about two weeks, when he's had some time to practice flying But the pooping is no problem anymore... Except for my clothes and towels, haha

It is always wise to never purchase a baby bird without any knowledge on how to care for them or what to watch for. Handfeeding is a delicate process that should only be done by someone that knows how. Samething with weaning process.

I read up extensively and for weeks and weeks before getting one. I do know what to watch for, that's why I got scared - I read that if they don't poop regularly, it's bad for them.

The handfeeding was tough the first day but went better each feeding. Also, if you have little experience, you have to start somewhere, right? All you can do is read, read, read, and watch and learn when the breeder shows you how.

I'm doing what I can here. It seems like everyone is just waiting to jump at people to call them 'uninformed'

I'm glad you have been researching and doing the best you can!! Being uninformed isn't a bad thing as long as you are on the road to becoming informed. Handfeeding is delicate and absolutely TERRIFYING even if you are experienced! This forum is filled with wonderful people who just want everyone to have a happy, healthy bird and handfeeding is one place where a lot can go wrong. It is very much ill-advised unless it is necessary and you are working closely with someone experienced (which it sounds like you are?) No offense intended I am sure, we just definitely get a lot of very uninformed people who did not make an effort to become more informed before it was too late! That said, I'm very happy that your baby has a vet visit in the near future and is pooping all over everything

I still definitely agree that handfeeding should be left to the breeders and it is completely unnecessary for a new owner to hand feed their baby, though. It scares the pazookie out of me to think of all the things that can and do go wrong. I would personally never purchase nor would I advise anyone to purchase an unweaned baby and I have handfeeding experience!

Thank you handfeeding was necessary and scary but he's eating all by himself now ^-^
I'm not experienced by any means but definitely on the road to become it, reading everything I can find and making sure he's got the best care ever I could possibly supply him with. I'm always open to tips, if you have any good info on lorikeets. Thanks for the kind message. <3

Am so glad it worked out for your baby! I don't think folks are waiting to jump, the amount of threads on this topic is overwhelming! What freaks me, is how many stories like this are there where they don't ask for help! I am almost as close with my JoJo as I am with my human children!
My reason for this post, is, really, don't take it personal! FYI, I see by your following reply, all is good!
