hey all, this is my first post in these forums (ive had cockatiels for 8 years) but i just bought an adorable GCC, he was 8 weeks old when i bought him and now almost 11 weeks, i saw other gcc's at petsmart the other day and they were HUGE compared to my little Pickle! I was just wondering when he will reach his adult size, hes not even 3 months old at the moment1

thanks everybody!

yeah im sure they were pure GCC's, they also had some yellow-sided mutations in a seperate enclosure. my GCC is just over 11 weeks and they were atleast a third bigger than him. and they weren't maroon-bellied or anything.

here in eugene, oregon GCC are one of the most common parrots around.
my other home in SoCal we have everything availible.

I'm not sure what the deal is with the ones at Petsmart, there is really no way to actually be sure if they are telling you the correct age or not, but I have noticed that theirs are considerably larger than my GCC which is about 7 months old. I have read that it can take up to two years before they are fully grown (if that is true I do not know).

Hi! I find that while certain species will be of a certain size, length, I do find that sometimes you can get smaller or larger than normal sizes of that species. My Hyacinth, Talara, is actually small for a Hyacinth. I've seen much bigger. However, if your bird is healthy and in good feather, then that is a blessing. I am also vertically challenged although my feet do reach the ground (HaHa). Don't you love the GCC's voice? It's so cute and munchkin-like. Good luck and keep us posted.:blue:

Birds reach their full size at 2-3 months old. That is when they are in nature they leave the nest. As they age they can bulk a little and the feet get thicker and rougher. but they don't grow. Yours is just a smaller one. Enjoy

Just got a 5-6 week old GCC and I think he's bigger than most you see online, personality to match too. image.jpg

Most green cheeks weigh between 55-80 grams... this is because there are different subspecies of green cheek conures, so they differ in size and colorations.

Most of the green cheeks [being born] in America are probably hybrids now because we haven't kept all the different subspecies apart....

And adult Green Cheek weighs around 65 grams.

My experience is only with the Pineapple and Yellow-sided Green Cheek Conures that I breed and who average 65gr at adulthood.

I'm sure DarkSoldier 246 is only interested in his own bird's weight.

Pineapple and Yellowsided (aka Opaline) are mutations, not subspecies though...

Considering the thread is over 2 years old, I was responding to rjl410's post and how he said that he thinks he got a larger green cheek than most.

Yes I'm aware of color mutations in GCCs. Didn't check date of post, my bad.

I should have quoted him, so my apologies there!

I don't believe that the mutations are part of any one subspecies, since they've been hybridized now. Now that I pay closer attention to normal green cheeks, I see so many different variances in the birds and how they can't be related to only one subspecies, but two or more... and to throw in mutations? I don't even want to hazard a guess!

One of my favorite GCC mutations is a yellowsided with a "blue butt" (subspecies thing). It just looks so abnormal and unique to me! I also love some of the turquoise mutations!

I wish we didn't mix the subspecies, since I find all of them so unique!

I brought Peeko home when he was 7 weeks old. The adults the breeder had were only a tad bit bigger than him. Your guy might just be small :)

Edit: Oops..I didn't even notice the date, sorry guys!
