Hello everyone ,
I'm new to this forum And hoping to find some answers and help .

I have just purchased a 4 month old black lory two days ago . He was hand fed from the begining by the breeder.

So the first day at home i tried to get him out the cage by having the rearing syrenge in my hand , that way he come out . Everything went well but still he scarred from my fingers , so he just stays on my arm and not my palm nor fingers .

Today all of the sudden he tried to bite at me while trying to feed him !!

How can i stop him from trying to bite me while i try to handle him ?
Any recomendations "

Should just leave him to get used to the place and get to know me before introducing my "fingers" to pick him up ?

Thanks

I'm sure more experienced people will reply, but meanwhile...

I vote YES, let him get used to you a bit... show him your hands are friendly by handing or tossing him his favorite treat. Get your hands near him without trying to touch. Again, show they're friendly.

There is a step-up technique most people use. I don't, so I'm not sure how to teach it, but hopefully somebody else will be.

Good for you, for staying patient. After all, he just left his home, and he's just a little baby.

I would also recommend Googling your questions. There is a lot of good advice out there. YouTube even has videos demonstrating bird handling.

I have an idea everything will work out for you two. Black Lories are sooooo beautiful!!!!

Thanks alot for the advice . I do have 3 other lorikeets , a blue streak , red collard and a swanson . I got them when they were alos around 4 months but didnt experience any biting with them , they were so easy to handle , but this new guy is kinda aggressive 😁. So as you said i have to be patient and take my time .

Thanks again

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh... you already knw a lot about birds, then. Another good thing will be to let the new baby WATCH you handling and loving the others... they learn so much by watching. Good luck. :)
