Goffin Cockatoo
Hello,
We are contemplating getting a B &G Macaw to add to our family but we have a Goffin Cockatoo already. I have been reading that you shouldn't have them together but have seen multiple pictures of the same birds together. Does anyone have a Macaw and a cockatoo? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I never put mine together cause my macaw will hurt any other birds that comes near. He's very jealous if he sees me touch another bird. He tries to go after them. I've seen conures and cockatoos who lost their foot, chewed up beak, etc that got attacked by a macaw. Sometimes you get lucky where they like each other. But I highly wouldn't recommend it.

You mean coming out to play on the perch together? You will have to keep an eye on both of them....Things can happen instantly. You have to basically be right there infront of them at all times.

Yea like mike says we have blue and gold and an alexandrine because he's young Archie our alexandrine rules the roost. We don't have any poroblems. But they can be aggressive to other birds. Suppose it depend on the bird he might be ok and he might not. Blue gold is only 9 months comming

I would get a baby B & G instead of getting one that is older. That might help? I heard that getting an older B & G can be difficult to train to adjust to the other bird.

To be honest there's prob loads of macaws in need of rescue that could be just as good birds. Only reason we got a babie was cause over here we don't have rescue centres for parrots so we had go to a breeder

But your Goffin isn't a baby!!! A baby macaw may help or teach him to retaliate other birds especially cockatoos if he gets attacked by one. Macaws are very curious birds and get themselves into mischief so you really can't be dependent on it being a youngester would help. You just never know...

You will be fine with both the macaw and the cockatoo but seperate cages where they cannot reach each others feet/toes. You may need to have them out separately or just hold your cockatoo while the macaw is on the stand.

Don't let them out together without supervision as a large macaw could hurt your cockatoo. We have two cockatoos and a new Harlequin macaw. The new Macaw will try to peck at the other birds if I hold a cockatoo up to her.

When my Greenwing and CAG are on the same perch I'm never more than an arm's length away.
