Yeah Billie is 11 months and it seems she has been molting since November. But just now a few wing feathers are falling out and she is preening alot more. She's getting a nice cool shower daily. My B&G molts throughout the year.
Sometimes I am amazed at how he can possibly grow all these feathers.
I have massive amounts of his feathers in many vases around the house.
The UK can have a very wide range of Winter Weather, which commonly starts mid to late October and ends in March. Between those time periods, Summer happens. She is only outside when we are outside. We are in the U.K. she has been preening her tail alot too and seems itchy. I think she is molting again. She's 11 months and the molting seems to have lasted months
Speaking of their glorious long tails, some people define a "parakeet" as a long-tailed parrot, in contrast to short-tailed Amazons, Greys, and Cockatoos. Under that definition macaws would be considered parakeets, right? The UK can have a very wide range of Winter Weather, which commonly starts mid to late October and ends in March. Point being, your temperatures and humidity fluctuates widely and it is highly recommended that you adjust where your B&G is staying as their normal range runs the length of the Amazon River in South America. Ice and Snow does not happen there and humidity is common.
For your baby, the first year is a challenge as there is commonly three molts as their body grows rapidly and feathers transition from chick to big bird feathers, well all most. So, molted feather are going to be common. By this early Fall, your baby will be adding body and downey feathers in preparations for Winter. During the Summer you will begin seeing the flight feathers transition to selective molting as once they learn to fly, they will only molt specific flight feathers to assure they continue to be able to fly. Note: tail feathers are a part of the flight surface and they join the process. A full set of flight feathers can take a coupe or more years to replace. Your baby will be very hard on the tail feathers as it takes them time to remember they are getting longer over those first three to four years.
So keep the misting coming!
Have fun!

Well, part of the year, she is inside where it does not snow on her and you can push the humidity up in the 45 to 50% range. In the other part of the year, far more flex ability as I recall she travels, in and out, with you during the warmer time of the year. What do u mean adjust where she is staying?
