Green Wing Macaw needs help!

I have come up on a GWM that needs a new home. His home now has become unable or unwilling to care for him anymore. They have grandchildren over all the time and since they are affraid of him, he no longer gets out of cage time, nor does he have any toys in his cage. He has started plucking, and has quite of bit of feather loss. If we take him in, is it possible to get him to stop? How long for new feathers to grow back out? I fear if he doesn't get a new home soon he may get worse.
His (2nd)owners have had him for 3 years, he is 9 years old.
Maybe he could be a great buddy for Mondo? I have some photo's if anyone would like to see and give us some advice.:) What does everyone think a fare rehoming fee should be?

From what you've said about how he is being treated there should be NO rehoming fee. As for the plucking my 6 year old Greenwing has recently plucked out all his chest and leg feathers and much of his back. The vet did a few tests including a feather biopsy. When the results came back it turned out it was allergies. After a month of taking antihistamines most of his down has come back and several of his outer (red) feathers. It takes time. If you were to adopt him he my stop plucking, however if its an allergy he'll need to been seen by an avian vet. It sounds to me he should see a vet even if he weren't plucking.

it sounds like bob really needs a new home, if he's plucking through boredom they should grow back but a vet trip to make sure he's healthy is a good idea.
i hope the meeting with bob goes well, i'm crossing my fingers for you! x

Yea I wouldn't be offering much if he's in state u say hes in. But take him home with u :)

You should ask if they want a rehoming fee. Sometimes the owners wont give them up unless a fee is available. Let them know you have other birds and will provide all the care he needs. If they have any sense and heart they would either turn him to you for nothing or take a small fee. I've done that with my birds I've taken in.

I guess I should also mention they have a Cockatoo to re home also. They are wanting between $500.00 & $1000.00 for the GW Macaw.

U got any pictures seems bit dear for bird that's plucking

Hi, If the bird has no toys and no one plays with him then no wonder it plucks! I think that they should give you the bird. Lesley
