Looking for suggestions short of a hanging perch to keep my B&G off the floor. He is super active, and I don't have a problem with him being on the floor, until he wants to get the Jack Russell's toes. I'd really like him to stay put. Our other B&G loves her large perch and hangs out all day playing with her toys, looking out the window and napping. He on the other hand has to be moving...

I have a play stand in my office that my husband put sides on, thinking that if he couldn't get to the vertical parts, he couldn't climb down. It slowed him down for about 2 hours and now he just does a hanging drop to get out.

Any one have suggestions on making an escape proof play stand or even where one might purchase something like this.

My final idea is to remove the ceiling fan in my office and replace it with a beautiful hanging perch. Hoping someone has had a similar issue and is full of suggestions :D

Thanks in advance.

Hey nichole, welcome to the forum. I've had similar issues with amazons that want to get off their own cage to climb on someone else's. I used a "seed catcher" design, like is found around the base of many cages. I made them out of plexiglass , that you can buy at Home improvment stores, not cheap but plan your cuts well. You have to make it wide enough that the bird can't reach the outside edge, it's too slick to climb. Even if they make it to the edge ,they can't reach anything with their feet and can only hang off the edge for so long before giving up. With a macaw your going to need a big section of plexiglass maybe 1/4" thick. It will take some planning ,i "lay out" mine with cardboard before cutting the plexiglass to avoid screw ups. You might be able to do the same sort of thing with sheet metal or aluminium siding. I'd send you a picture but i don't have one anylonger, Solved most of the cage placement issues now.

Mac's main play perch is suspended from an eye bolt in the ceiling. We do have ropes and branches down to the floor area but his enclosure is made of a material similar to plexiglass approximately 9' X 7' X 32" tall.

It does keep him contained!!

Here's what they have at Fran's Exotic Birds in Cypress:
