Hello!

I'm new here and was looking through your forums and find it very interesting, glad I found you!
I have an outside aviary with 2 cockatiels and 1 parakeet. I had a few reptile rock heaters (warm to the touch) in a 3 sided somewhat enclosed area in the aviary, which they would sit on or perch close. (Aviary is 9' x 12' x 8' high)

I was wondering is there another way of getting heat to them that was COST EFFECTIVE? These worked great for a couple of years but now seem to have started not working properly...never overheated but isn't getting quite as warm.

I live in Southern California and though it normally doesn't get that cold, it's started to dip into the low 40's and I'm concern.

Thank-you for any help!

I know some people use light bulbs, particularly in the next boxes.

My neighbors use one in the little pump house for the well to their barn and apparently it works just fine. And it gets pretty cold in Ohio.

Heat lamps work really good, just make sure they are hung so that they cant burn themselves on them. I use a space heater that seems to do a pretty good job.
