I see on several posts where people mention there birds "Attack" others or everyone. Curious what your definition is?
Mondo will bit me when I put my arm up to him, it may cause a spec of blood, he also will grab at my hair when I'm close and working on his cage.
So, what I am wondering, is this what you mean when they attack? or is Mondo giving me some sort of break on the biting?
Thanks

That's all that Fred has ever done as well. It's basically a warning, and he now knows that I don't need more than a gentle beaking. If you respect what he's telling you, he won't need to escalate it.

Levi attacks my husband....for no apparent reason. He would fly at him, if he could. As it is, he jumps to the floor, and goes after his feet. He will actually attack Ken's footwear, biting whatever he can get to. When he was allowed on Ken's shoulder, he would go from side to side, biting both ears. We've given up working on it, as Ken is no longer interested in handling Levi, or any of the others.

my nut has only attacked one person my dad, serves him right though the teasing git! she flew onto his head and clawed and bite it, enough to draw blood

but she's given me bites that has drawn blood, (when i didnt know better!) she has since settled and i read up on body language and i generally listen to what she is saying via her many looks and ways she stands, i generally get 4 warnings from her before she bites me, though i dont push it now i know,

1st she simply turns her back to me,
2nd she walks away,
3rd she will crouch with her beak open
4th in crouched possition, hiss and lunge forward, this is her attack on me the last time she drew blood, i ignored her warnings an kept prompting her to step up on my hand

she can sometimes goes strait to lunge, but this is mainly when i want her off my partner as his had enough, as she won't leave him alone and his a little nervous of her beak :) and will nip at his skin tags or ears, so to solve this he takes her off by offering treat/toy. though now when she gets her beak around my hand or finger its not painful, i'd just rather not do things that causes these reactions from her

There is also some body language when they are going to lash out at someone. They usually fluff up and or their eyes will get pinpoint. That is something we all need to watch for. Sometimes they will bite even their preferred person..

One example for my Echo if anyone including me has a baseball cap on he will bite. I am thinking he thinks it's a big beak and he needs to defend himself. The one time I had a cap on he was very agitated and as soon as I took it off he went back to his usual self.

My macaw bit me a few weeks ago causing severe nerve damage in my thumb. I am able to use it but have no feeling in it at all. The doctor said it can take up to a year to heal.
As for why he bit me, I thought it was a new flannel shirt that I had been wearing. It had a pattern on it that I thought might have scared him. He had been leaning away from me when I approached him and when I went to offer my hand to step up, he got me.
Things have been well since, until a few minutes ago. We have been buddies but I went to scratch his head and with no warning he got me again. This time, no damage except for hurt feelings.

i've just come to the conclusion, that sometime they just don't want to do something we ask of them?
yes they canbe frightened or feel vunerable with new things, but at the same time they are very clever, and we can miss what there saying through there body language. this is something i am trying to get through to my poor son, and even nut when she does not want to do something he is asking her will now turn, and go tall and stiff, leaning away with her head an angle, so i guess thats her way of yelling at him, i dont want to, with me its a polite turn away

our alexandrine leans forward making angry noises when he cnt be bothered everythings on his terms lol vince our macaw has been great no bites or anything hes only 7 months fingers crossed he stays that way

Since one of our books came this week , I am starting to be able to read "Body Language" You really can see a bit into there heads!
Mondo had never received much, if any attention from a male till me, sometimes I just get a confused look from him! He took to Kelly really well, she laughs a lot, so does Mondo when he hears her. He is doing speaking commands for me now with a reward, so i'm a little PUMPED!! Doesn't take them long to steel your heart!

All a bird asks for is a little love, food and toys, some attention and patience.

Keep it up. rewarding him with treats, and he will be your friend for life

Levi and Sterretjie will make good friends Sharon.:D

An attacking bird and a bird that bites every now and then because we did not listen are completely two different things.

An attacking bird does not give warning, it is enough for that bird to just see the human he does not like and then immediately go over to seek and destroy mode. My girl runs - and she only has one proper working leg - to where ever my husband is standing and bites down with the intention to kill. Now that 60% of her flight feathers came in she is back to her old self of flying to him and attacking. Luckily she can not gain hight yet. Just like Levi she will always be clipped.

She does the same with my daughter but in a different manner. She will jump onto her lap and then act all cute and vulnerable, begging for a scratch. The moment that my daughter moves Sterretjie lunges forward and bites.

They are a bit psycho.

That what I was hoping for.! I can say now Mondo is NOT an Attacker!
Tried some more training last night, Mondo would have none of it, He seemed he was trying to teach me? After about 3 or4 tries, he did comply, but didn't take the treat, he just bit my finger, no blood at all this time. I thought who is training who here! LOL

Update...I was installing a new perch the other day, Mondo was on the top of the cage, walked over and grabbed at my hair, when I jerked back cause it startled me, I looked up at him and he broke out one of his laughs! :D
Little stinker seems to be just playing! He no longer bites hard now, just the normal beaking they do.
