Couple of questions.... Our cockatoo escaped from his cage and I got severely attacked getting him back in. We rescued him and have no idea how he was raised.. Apparently not out of his cage!! Any ideas on how to prevent him from escaping again

how did he escape in the first instance?

Will he step up onto a stick? If so you can get him on the stick to get back into the cage. How much time does he have out of the cage?

He has escaped before and we have weird locks that I have to unscrew to fill his dishes but he still got out and when I tried to get home to step up that's when he full out attacked me...came right after me like a rabid dog

Greetings, and welcome to the forums!!

A few questions to help us give the best advice! What species, sex, ( if known) age, and how long you have had this bird? It is possible, given the right conditions, your bird may either be entering adolescence or hormonal, a temporary event that can twist the most mellow bird into a rampaging bundle of offense!

Has the bird recently visited a certified avian vet to check health? You mention a rescue; it may be impossible to learn the possible horrors he has endured. There is often a "honeymoon" during which time the bird is fairly placid as it assesses the new environment.
