So I've been to bird stores about a million times. Usually it's fun to see what's there, but nothing to write a thread about. On a normal trip to the bird store, I may pet the birds, but I usually don't pick them up and cuddle them. Omar's stores has all the babies (and some adults) for sale out on stands. Smaller birds in cages or bins, but you're welcome to take them out.

Today I felt like handling some birds :D. I first looked in a large open bin with Cockatiels. Almost immediately as I looked in, a cute little cinnamon one stopped what it was doing, looked up from the back of the bin, and then ran straight toward me. I of course picked up the little cutie. Aww, it was so sweet and soft and cuddly :). Usually the tiels in the bins are semi-wildish and scatter when you put your hand in there. Then the store told me that this one has an owner, and they visit every day. No wonder it was so tame. The way it stopped and ran to me was just the cutest thing ever.

I then saw that some of the Macaws they had were still babies. I said 'ah, these look like babies so they don't have an attitude yet' lol... A Scarlet was just a doll, but was still learning to perch and had sharp nails still, so forget picking it up. They had little black hairs on the face. I've always seen white facial lines on a Scarlet. Are they black as a juvenile? This was a Scarlet for sure. A young Miligold was beautiful too. I held and snuggled it, and seemed pretty well socialized. But... whoever buys the bird needs to teach some bite pressure control, cause it bit me... and drew blood . I can tell it didn't fully realize how hard it was able to bite. Just telling me to stop petting it lol.

I didn't see any English budgies that I was hoping to see. She said they haven't had many in this year. It's the owner who breeds them. This is where I got Mink my hand fed English. I am trying to fight the English budgie MBS. After all, it's not like getting another parrot... I already have a huge double flight cage, and they're small, so it wouldn't 'really' seem like another bird, you know? I'd really love to have one of the gigantic mutant super sized 60+ gram English budgies that I've seen every now and then ;).

Oh, and the Macaw bite wasn't enough. Raven bit me tonight too. Reminds me, I need to buy more band aids. I think he was still mad at me for trying to get him used to the harness. Plus he didn't want to get put away for bed time. Stinker. He'll only step up for me with a treat (I use small safflower seeds), but sometimes like tonight, he stepped up and acted like he was going to take the seed, but bit me hard instead :(. I love birds.

They have ENORMOUS English budgies at a couple of the stores here, and I have been quite tempted to bring one home on many occasions!

They have them or did have them at KP. Too bad I'm too into my lovebird MBS to bring one home with me! Haha!

I really love English Budgies. And that flight cage is just aching for a new addition:) Well, 2 new additions, you totally need 2 more. Just to keep things even. And I have heard that 3 pairs do even better than 2!
Why is Raven being mean to his Mama?? Jax eats safflower seeds too and I have to give them to him on the lid of the container because my fingers always look better than the treat.
How bad did the baby Miligold get you?

Then you've seen the kind I'm talking about!

I know, I always hear get even numbers. I hesitate after seeing how much Mink and Twigs poop in a day. I'm afraid with 2 more I'll turn my back, then turn around again and the place will be covered in poop . Okay, I may be exaggerating, but the cleaning factor does make me think twice. Man they're messy little things. Then Don saying no more birds. Like I say though, it's not like getting a new parrot ;), I have a feeling the English budgie MBS has gotten to me, and it is just a matter of time :).

The Miligold got me about like a GCC bite, if that makes sense. Obviously it "could have" done more damage, but ended up like how a small conure would draw blood. It happened so quick I didn't even have time to be scared, and I certainly didn't see it coming. Still, you hope to never leave a bird store with a wound of any sort! The adult rehomes they have for sale many times have a warning sign on them saying they do bite. I don't even try to pet those!

I envy you. I wish there was a bird store or even a rescue close to me. I would love to go visit .

Oh Chrisitne. You are deprived. Lol jk :)

Tell Don the new addition budgie has always been there and he just never noticed until now! ;) Lol

I've turned my boyfriend into a bird addict very quickly. He never had pets growing up besides a betta fish for a few years. He never even really considered birds for pets till he met mine. Now? He wants his own, he loves macaws and conures, though his mother won't let him have any birds in the house. We've only been together a bit over a year and he demands shared custody of the birds should we ever break up.

Do what I did, get your hubby hooked on birds by giving him his own bird. I did that and now hubby has his very own two birds (both parrotlet boys that he provides ALL the care for). He fell HARD for birds. I have to keep HIM in check now. But it's super great sharing a love and hobby together. Remember, you must SHARE your addiction. ;-)

I can't look at English budgies because I'll want one. I hope you get your new one so I can read about it. :)

I'll have to show you a pic of my Petey! He was bigger than Kyo!

Here he is next to my cockatiel Joey. Such a wonderful bird. Loved both these guys so much.

I just built a budgie enclosure for my three, floor to ceiling high and 45" wide enclosed in tiny mesh to keep the food/poop/feather mess contained. Just starting to outfit it today and went to the pet store for supplies. I went in specifically only (supposedly) to get a boing and drinkwell fountain for the budgies to play in. I have zero impulse control so my husband was ushering me away from the bird section. He got distracted looking at some yard flea junk for the dog pen and I slipped away. He caught me having a serious conversation about going home with a cockatiel and pulled me away. It's only a matter of time (insert evil villain laugh and hands rubbing together here). This thing is huge and I totally have room for one more.

Well, he already loves the birds, and Robin and Raven love him too... but with none of the responsibility that is . I don't know that I trust him lol, that's terrible to say I know, but I have certain exact ways to do this and that.

Haha, if I got him his own bird, guess who'd be taking care of it! Uh... no. It's not the right time now for another parrot. With the budgies, I already have the double flight cage with room for imo up to 2 more. At least one more :).

Sarah, Petey is huge! I think if he stood up tall, that might be the kind of EB I'm talking about. I've heard that some weigh over 60 grams. That's more than some GCC !

Wow, another enclosure like Sailor has? Can you please share pics? "Someday" I'd love to have enclosures for my birds. Tell your husband since you have a whole huge enclosure, it's silly to only have 3 budgies in it. You absolutely need more :). Lucky little guys!
