Cream, Cookie and Baby, peach faced lovebirds
At work I draw art sometimes, usually when I get really stressed out or something, I just take a walk and draw birds on the whiteboards. The coworkers really enjoy them and sometimes ask for me to draw them a bird for them.

This guy asked me to draw a bird in his office. I got really focused on the eye and the lore so I decided to make it a heron.

Sometimes I do stuff like this. I just am like, lets draw birds but have them be like dramatic.

Wow!!! You're so talented Rachel! Those are all REALLY good. I especially love the one with the Raven and the goofy bird :). Amazing whiteboard art there!

That's awesome :) You have talent, no doubt about that.

I really love the bluejay you drew, I raised one once that fell out of a tree 3 years ago. He had a slightly broken beak that gave him a permanent Elvis lip beak but he lived and ate just fine. You know some bird mothers are incredible. His mother knew I took him in the house (in my neck of the woods wild animals would have had him by nightfall-skunks, raccoons, cats, dogs, coyotes-you name it). There was no way to get him back into his nest because it was realllly high up in a spindly tree). Almost three weeks later when I brought him back out fully feathered she was still waiting around the house and immediately went to him and fed him from then on. He flew away with her a few days later. She waited all that time and knew her own baby when she saw him. Completely true story.

Wow, you are so talented! I can't believe you were able to do that on a whiteboard, amazing:)
Thank you for sharing and I want to see more!

I forgot two birds yesterday:

Tail is too short, maybe he's just got a short tail.

An old one, but a cartoon phoenix dragon. A character design I never used.

I drew this today. I love drawing cartoony birds.

I love the heron and raven! How on earth are you able to add all that details with only expo pens?!

You first draw the dark parts out, and use your finger to very carefully add highlights. I use a similar technique with pens, instead of using a finger though, I use white acrylic paints.

If you get a colour too close to the black, especially if the black isn't dry, it will mix with other colours and add a dark-grey tint to the marker until it wears out, which doesn't take too long. You can use that to add shades and gradients. That's how I did the little phoenix's tail feathers - my marker was dark from mixing with another colour so I just used it to have mahogany.
