Are chronic egg laying/egg binding common?

It turns out I'm getting a female GCC. I originally wanted a YS male, but I'm getting a pineapple female lol . Mutation doesn't really make a difference to me, but I want to know if egg problems are common. I know some female birds probably go their whole life without laying an egg, which is what I'm hoping for since I don't want eggs or babies. Do most females NOT have egg laying problems? Am I worrying too much?

It happens quite often...I've lost several females I couldn't save in time...just be careful!

Is it common in GCCs though? I was looking at this website:

Chronic Egg Laying Solutions For Your Bird

and it mentioned several species of birds in the first paragraph but none of them are conure. Some are the same types of birds that you have.

I haven't seen it happen in conures but I've heard it happen to conures before. But mainly Cockatiels and Kakariki that I see happen to the most....

I've had a couple females lay eggs with no problems in the past. I did have a lizard who had egg binding problems though.

Yeah same, I've only heard stories. And thank god my female cockatiel has no problem laying eggs then! I got her from a lady and she said that the cockatiel laid 2 eggs in the past 3 months (or was it 3 eggs in the past 2 months?). Either way, she's a big girl and I think she's perfectly fine passing eggs and she's not a chronic egg layer.

Awesome that's exactly what I needed to hear :). I don't know why. I know there are lots of conures out there with no problem but all I've been hearing and thinking about the past couple weeks were stories of conures with egg binding problems, so I needed some reassurance/encouragement lol! Thanks that really helped me out :).

There are things you can do to help them pass the egg. By rubbing some olive oil, mineral oil, or veg oil on their cloaca. Boil some hot water and hold the bird over the steam, high enough where its not cooking her. With her cloaca facing the steam. I would never suggest pushing unless you know what your doing, breaking the egg inside will kill a female bird!

Thanks so much!!!!!!! I will write this down and never forget it, in case the time comes. I actually saw a video of a guy (a vet I think) helping a lovebird push an egg out. I would be too scared to try though, but I will do it as a last resort if there's no hope left that she'll do it herself. God forbid.

Marigold used to be a chronic egg layer, and got egg-binding.
She survived that, but now she has a really large tumor that isn't really fixable :(
But she's my only hen that's really laid eggs without my permission.

BirdieNumNum... You need to stop worrying! It may never happen... Enjoy your bird! If (not when) you get problems, seek help... :p

It's better to be prepared!!!! Not knowing what to do is how I lost my first female Lutino Cockatiel. Because I know what to do I was able to save most of my other females except the chronic egg layer Kakariki. She laid WAY too many!!!! I couldn't get her to stop...

Aww :( She got a tumor from the chronic egg laying?

Hahah thanks for the comfort!! I do have about a year before I should start worrying since my birdie is only a baby :). They start laying at 1 year right? Or is it 2?

Oh no!! :( Well I'm definitely reading up on everything now. I like to have the peace of mind that I'm prepared for if it happens even if I'm a year early . I don't like not knowing what to do because then it becomes sort of a burden on me and I constantly worry about it.

OMG, I forgot bird lay eggs

I have so much reading to do. Thanks for writing they don't lay eggs until their a yr old. I have time to read and do my research on that.
