Parrots
Hahn's macaw, RIP George, Jenday Conure
We have adopted a Scarlet Macaw for release into the NW Costa Rican region. Her name is Atom. They breed GW and Scarlet Macaws soley for the purpose of repopulating them into wildlife preserves in Costa Rica. As soon as I figure out how to post a picture from PDF format from my Ipad onto this forum (any help would be appreciated with this task) I will post a picture of her, but she is beautiful. She was moved from the breeding camp to the wild release sight as of this morning.

This is the email we recieved from them today:
Thank you once again for your kind donation to the Ara Project. Atom, the macaw which you sponsored, has now been relocated up to her new home in Punta Islita. Without your help this would not have been possible!

The construction work for the new breeding centre is now well underway, with a tourism centre and a house for staff currently being built. We hope to have the funding to start building aviaries for the remaining macaws very soon - it is an exciting time!

Atom is settling in very well and has been getting used to the different sights and sounds of Northwestern Costa Rica; in particular the noisy howler monkeys! Please find attached your certificate which has some photos of Atom on the day she arrived in her new home.
Here Is a stock photo until I figure it all out of the Scarlets.

I am now able to post the pics of Atom in her relocation area. first is a group photo and the 2nd is the beautiful girl herself. I have explained to Hahnzel that this is his adopted sister...he still keeps attacking the keyboard while I type though.

Here is another picture of Atom. If anyone would like information on the ARA Project, here s a link: http://www.thearaproject.org/. It is possible to volunteer to help as well as to sponsor birds if any of you are interested in a working vacation.

When I was younger, my mother actually looked into some of the volunteer programs for people, and helping out caring for parrots. It's something I would have loved to do, but money and my birds kept me from being able to do it. Maybe someday! :)

Atom is a lovely scarlet!
