anyone have a princess parrot?

there is a breeder who is very close to where i live and he has[amongst others] princess parrots/monk parrots.
does anyone here have one of these birds? if so, what is your opinion?

I don't have one, but a friend had some princess parrots in his aviary. All I can tell you is that they are beautiful birds lol. I also read they can make great pets.

i really like the king parrot too, however i've read a few comments on various sites that they aren't suitable to have indoors, that they need to have an avairy to live in. thats a shame as the king seemed to 'tick all the boxes'.

If that is true about the king parrot then yes that is a shame, because i met one once and he was quite a clown.

The bird, monk parrot, is also another name for a quaker.

ooo I didn't see the bit about the monk/quaker parrot lol. I should mention I have also met one of them at the bird specialty shop here where I live. They are the funniest little acrobats! Only thing is they are quite loud.

Hey spaced, I was just down at he bird shop today and they had some princess parrots there. Boy, do they have a set of lungs on em! I'm thinking of replacing all my smoke alarms with princess parrots lol. I'm sure its not the sort of thing a happy bird would do all day, but just letting you know. I think they were just ticked off at me standing their looking at them, cuz they shut up as soon as I left .

I also saw some Green cheeks while I was there...I had forgotten how gorgeous they were, I wanted to take them all home lol.

thanks for the info on the noise. to be honest i really don't know what parrot to decide on, i'm just getting confused.
i sent an email off to the local breeder i mentioned earlier to see if it would be ok to drop by and take a look at his birds.

seems like i do a little research on particular ones and they seem ok. however, then i come across something that contradicts what i've already read, like the stuff about the king parrot not being suitable for indoors.

the most important thing for me is that the volume isn't very loud. i realize that every parrot can go a bit crazy with the noise at times though.

I know what you mean about contradicting literature. I have a modern published companion and aviary bird guide that says Ekkies don't make great pets. LOL I beg to differ thank you.

Best thing to do is what you are doing - trying to find someone who has experience with the species and also going and checking them out for yourself. It's the only real way to find out. Most literature and websites on any topic will always contradict, its only the things that are 'common' amongst your research that are usually true.

It's so hard to know what to believe. I agree with Ben talk to breeders and owners and people who have experience with parrots. the Parrot Rescue Centre Parrot Rescue Centre | Caring for Parrots in Australia is located in Qld, not sure if they are close to you but may be worth a visit. I have read lots of negatives on female ecky's including they are only suitable as avairy birds. I know Shadow is still only young but she is very affectionate and is in fact sitting on my shoulder right now chatting away.

i've just emailed a person who has a princess parrot for sale at $220. i first noticed the advert almost two weeks ago, so i've asked the guy if he is open to offers.

Do you mean a Princess of Wales? If so, I do have one. Quiet bird but doesn't like MY hands in her cage....she tolerates others....
