I may have an issue with my new IRN Santo, but maybe not. It's new cage came in today, and it's huge! 24x22x36. It seems very comfortable, maybe to comfortable. A few things I have observed today after putting it in cage.
1) it's a lot less nippy inside the larger cage. It was a little aggresive inside the loaner (smaller) cage the breeder gave me. Then outside the cage it was fine. being less nippy is probably a good thing!
2) In the older smaller cage it would come right out to me when door was open, and loved being out of the cage. Now it seems very very content being inside cage. I think it's so big it doesn't realize.
Any how anyone have any opinions if it a good thing that it's happy being in new cage so much, and not wanting to come out. Everything I read says out of cage time is very important.

Some birds are content in smaller spaces, others enjoy bigger spaces. Out of cage time is important, so leave the door open so if/when your bird wants to come out, he/she will. You may also consider adding a perch or putting some toys on the top of the cage to encourage it to come out (after all, if theres lots of fun things to do IN the cage, but nothing to do out, why would the bird want to come out?).

Also, IRNs are a little more difficult to socialize than other species. Yours sounds very new and it sounds like you are still in the process of bonding and building trust with your bird. That probably has a lot to do with his/her unwillingness to come out. Just keep working with step up training, getting your bird use to you and trust building activities so your bird WANTS to be out and with you:)
