Hey, i was wondering if anyin knows of any easy to make toys that 1. does involve buying materials and 2. isn't messy to MAKE and can be made in a few minutes.

These ones are super simple, doubt you'l even have to leave the computer to make em lol.

Can't go wrong with a bit of cardboard on a shoelace. Cut out some small shapes from an old cardboard box. Poke small holes in the middle of each one. Now tie a knot in the end of the shoelace, thread one piece on, leave a little space, tie another knot, then thread another piece on.....and so on, then hang it in the cage. Its a great shredding toy.

I've mentioned it before, but my favourite is just to get a piece of paper and wrap it around some favourite birdie treats. Then you can hang it in the cage or use it as a foot toy. Make sure your bird sees you put the treats in though. Any paper will do, pad paper, printer paper, even newspaper. So simple..... I might go make one now in fact:D

Hiroshi really loves straws. So I take a straw, put juice in the middle of it and tie it into knots :) Keeps him entertained for quite some time too!

I've learned through the years that no matter how expensive the toys I buy for my fids, they seem to always have more fun playing with the box they came in.....lol :11:

Here's one, take a toilet paper or paper towl tube. Poke holes all over it. Then stick paper, tissue paper, tissues inside the holes. Be sure to leave lots hanging out. Then stick treats in the little holes with the paper stuff. Your bird will spend hours shredding it up to look for treats.

I'm a big fan of coffee filters, myself. You can string them on just about anything and they're really cheap.

Another option - if you have a drill of some kind - get untreated door shims at any home improvement store. They're made of parrot safe white pine, cut thin, and only about $2 for 20 of them. My husband drills holes in either end of the shims (very easy to do if you leave them in the packaging) then he'll cut them in half. Now they can be strung on anything and the broken ones can be used as foot toys.

We've also given them pieces to jigsaw puzzles. Max love to rip them apart.

Just today, I took a paper towel roll and stuffed it with spinach. That lasted or quit awhile.

I think everyone about just about covered the cheap homemade toys, I did invest in a set of human toddler teething rings - I think they were about $12au for 12 rings and the birds love them and have not put a dent in them. I hang some from sisal rope and others just in the "toy box".
