Any chance we can tell if my birds are boys or girls?

I have two parakeets and was wondering if you all coukd help me decide if they are male or female. If this picture isnt good enough, i can take better ones later.

I can tell you for sure if there were better pics. It's best if they're fairly close and in "natural" good lighting.

It appears they've already gone through a molt (no head bars) so are at least 6 or so months old, but still have solid dark eyes, which can either indicate immaturity (less than about a year) OR, split to certain color mutations.

I'm inclined to say they're both young girls at this point, but I'm interested in seeing different pics to tell the color of the cere more accurately.

Looks like the left is a girl, and the right a boy, but I'll let more experts chime in.

Still hard to tell if you used a flash, but the one on the right looks like a little girl.

In person... do both of their ceres look very different from each other?

In immature birds such as yours, a young male will have a solid uniform colored pink cere. A young female will have a chalky light bluish white, with white around nostrils.

Ill try again with pictures tomorrow. Hard to get them to hold still. The blue bird has a lot more blue in the cere than the yellow one does. Also the blue bird seems to preen the yellow one quite a bit (dont know if this matters).

On my iPad here, now it appears they are both girls. On the computer it was hard to tell, but the color of the yellow one seems to be a girl as well.

As far as the preening goes, behavior doesn't indicate sex. Budgies of both sexes can act out with the same "masculine or feminine" behaviors.

Males are typically light blue/blue and females are tan/brown but they do appear to be youngsters. The blue birdie looks to be a male in the scond set of pictures. To be sure,I guess you'll just have to wait until they mature some,then it will be much easier to tell what they are.
At any rate,they look very sweet!
My first pet bird was a 'keet and he <Wally> was just amazing for such a little guy! He had a pretty good vocabulary,he would "ride" around on the cats back < Moe,the cat was an indoors kitty and had no idea what birdies were lol> He'd bathe on the sink board,or in my cereal bowl lol..loved his greens and ate other human foods..He would sit on my hand and "fight" the pen or pencil while I tried to do my homework. Mom got him for me for my 14th birthday..I remember she paid a whopping $4.95 for him! A little bundle oj joy he was!

Although the mature males (of most color mutations) have the vibrant blue cere, it is pinkish as a juvenile in all male budgies.

The chalky "light" blue color is female for sure. Either an immature, or a hen who is not in breeding condition. These are old enough to tell.

I've got it... another thing I didn't think of until today, is that the girl on the left appears to be older which is why the cere is a slight bit different color from the other girl... she is getting closer to maturity and is starting the color shift.

I blew the pic up larger, and she appears to have iris rings coming in in her eyes, while the other one doesn't yet. The girl on the left has a white cere (losing the light blue of the baby females), which should gradually go to tan, then brown as she matures. During adulthood this may stay brown or go back and forth to the whitish color.

Thanks for all the help. Im looking to get a male so that i can attempt to train him a little. I found a beauty at the store, but cant really tell. Below is a picture. Any chance this is a male? Has a pinkish purple cere.

One on the left seems to be a boy in my opinion. Left kind of looks like it might be a girl.

One thing that I play around with is the shape of their head. I know it is not a really a good sex indicator but I have always found budgies with flat top heads turn out to be boys...I know it sounds crazy, but I have been 100% correct so far after matching up my dna results...
