Ants! help!

Help! Lately we have had ants hanging around my Sennies cage! I'm not sure what it is that attracts them. I take out his fresh food dish regularly and clean it in hot water. His cage gets cleaned in cider vinegar and water and apart from that he just has roudybush pellets. How can I get rid of these ants and keep them away?! They haven't been near the too but she is in a different room and has a completely different diet and routine.

How are they coming in to the house? You may have to follow their trail and find their entrance/exit. If they're coming in through the gaps between the floor and baseboard molding or through the window, an easy fix would be to caulk those cracks.

We have an old under loved house so there are probably endless places for them to come in =/

I have used an Ortho ant spray twice a year called Home Defense. I spray it outside along the bottom of the house on the outside, going around the entire house. It keeps the ants at bay plus other bugs that were coming in from outside. I never use it inside, just out. If they are coming in from outside that should help. Good Luck.

Understand if it is an old house and you can't find out how they're getting in the house, you can still "divert" them

It's all about breaking their chemical trail

You could try washing the floor and then use a latex caulk around the wood trim at the bottom of the floor, or put one of those cheap plastic drop cloths under the cage, maybe use a little painters tape to hold it up the wall a foot or two, once you divert their path they most likely won't come back to that spot

I've not had a problem with ants for a couple of years (cue massive invasion now I've said that...!) but always had good results with the little bait traps you can buy. The ants pick up the poison food and take it back to the nest but they have to go inside the little trap feeder thing to pick it up so safe to have around other pets. Takes a few days but is very effective.

If you want to go natural, try spraying the edges of the room and problem areas with peppermint or lemon essential oil mix with water- ants hate it. Or talc, they have issues crossing talc. Might look a bit silly with talc dusted round and puffed into the gaps, but it'll get rid of the pesky things as they just won't walk across talc
