RIP Constantine: Jenday Conure
Yet another update on how things are going for me and my little girl.

She's really taken to living at the cabin where she can watch the wild birds outside. My dad let me turn the living room area into a forest with giant branches and sticks all lashed to the decorative bars that form as the top half of my bedroom wall. Con has a blast running back and forth through and ripping off all the little twigs, bark, and new leaves. She also enjoys tugging the toys off the branches then throwing them to the floor just to watch me pick them up, the little brat. She's also molting pretty well and has grown 2 flight feathers in which I am super excited about!!!

The only mishap her and I have had was about a week ago when we were relaxing in the sunshine by the lake. A robin startled her from her branch and she flew over my head and when I reached for her, she took off again for the lake. Thankfully, she landed right at the edge and only got some duckweed on her tail while I, who had pole vaulted over our retaining walls to reach her, wasn't so lucky. Duckweed and sand do not taste good nor do they make pretty hair decorations. Con was happy to preen them from my hair as a way of thanks for coming to her rescue (though it was hardly needed). She will no longer be allowed outside without a harness.

I'm happy to report that my dad and Con have become very close. Before I moved in, I was terrified he was going to do something stupid and kill her so I took advantage of his enjoyment of reading in the bathroom. I took away all his fish magazines and replaced them with conure and parrot books and magazines. He can now spout off almost as much info as me and it makes me proud :) It makes me happy to see Con beg him to pick her up when he comes home from work. I'm almost jealous of how close they are but I know deep down she knows I'm her Mama. He took me to meet the neighbor's Grays and apologized for calling me crazy for the strict rules I have for Con whereas theirs have a dirty cage, few toys, and have been taught to open beer cans. He prefers my way of raising birds and I consider that a small victory.

And my last bit of good news. My dad was against me bringing home the Sun Conure until I had my own place. He changed his mind when I explained to him what had been done to her. He volunteered $200 and now I just need to get the other $350 and I can bring Sun home :)

All in all, things have been going pretty good with my new living situation. Con seems to be doing so much better now than she ever has and seeing her happy makes me happy. I'm glad she let my dad into our little flock :p

Sounds like everything is going really well with you and your new place , that's great :)
I'm so happy you got Con back , OMG that must have been horrible ! Another person on the forum had almost there her bird when she was outside too , very scary !
Thank God everything turned out well though .

I love the way you changed your Dad's reading preferance , lolol
It's great Con excepted your Dad as part of the flock too :)
How wonderful your Dad chipped in to help you with your new baby ! Dads are special that way ;)

I bet your cabin looks like a bird paradise with all the tree branches ! I bet Con has a blast on them , lolol.

Anyway , it was real nice hearing from you and Con.
Keep us updated when you bring home your new baby :)

I'm a little jealous of your indoor forest! Congrats on everything working out for you (I don't know your story or situation, but that's okay), as that's always the best feeling in the world. Sounds like your Dad is well on his way to being a bird person ;)

I'll take some pictures after work tomorrow and upload them sometime this week. It's the second "forest" I've put up for her but this one really outdid the first. My dad and I went to the burn pile for the lake and found a bunch of newly cut branches so I tied them to the back of my Jeep and drug them back to the cabin. Con rather enjoys stripping the bark from one of the softer woods and still has to chew through a bunch of small sticks to really get the forest to her liking. I can't wait to have another colorful bird up there with her. We'll ignore the TV twice as much once that happens lol As of now, I can show you pics of the first forest she had.

WOW! What a GREAT idea! Your "forest." I LOVE IT!

You are all settling in with your Dad wonderfully, it sounds...and sometimes, it just takes being around a wonderful bird for a short time to become 'addicted' ;)

I know when I put branches in our birds cages (I never buy wood perches) I never strip the bark or leaves either. My birds love doing that all by them selves.

Little do they know...but I think I see a "forest" growing in our home. Thanks for the wonderful idea complete with pictures!

I see you live in Nebraska...I guess my hubby and I will be travelling there in June for a conference. I've never been there and am rather excited.

Take care,

Toni

That is such a cool idea! Your birdie looks very spoiled :D

It's my dream to have an actual "bird room" some day, with tons of perches, branches, ropes, toys, etc. hanging from the ceiling and walls.

Glad everything is going so good for you! Can't wait to see more pictures and I really hope you get to bring your new baby home soon.

Depending on where you go, it's rather flat here. I just moved from our second largest city back to my hometown and am glad to be back. Omaha was rather hilly and I hated it but now that I'm on flat ground I feel almost safer lol. I had the idea for the forest one day and brought a bunch of branches home while my dad was away. I was expecting him to get mad but all he did was look at them and say "We need more next time. I'll help." :D

Yeah Con is twice as spoiled now. My dad has fallen head over heels for her and I keep saying I can go get him a bird but he refuses. I'm trying to talk him into getting the parrotlet at our local "pet store" who I have dubbed Nibbler because of his love of biting anything and anyone but me. He's cute as a button but I'm not going to pay $300 for a green parrotlet and I even told the manager that and he said he'd go down to $275...oh well.

Love the pictures and I am so happy to hear about your Dad's new way of thinking!

Here are pictures of the newest forest that I promised. I designed it with thoughts of Con flying sometime in the next month or so. There are a few more things that still need to be tweaked on it but so far she really loves the branches and trying to poop on me while I duck underneath to go to my room.
