Parrots
Clyde, Quaker; Freddie, tiel; Rocky, umbrella cockatoo.
Quaker parronts (I'm one) always warn new Quaker parronts that there's a "honeymoon" period where the parrot behaves beautifully and sucks you into a false sense of security until he's comfortable with you and only then do you see his real personality. Do 'toos do that? Is Rocky being sweet and affectionate because we're new to each other?

Hmmm...good question. I can only speak of my experience with my Peanut, but she started sweet and she is still sweet (actually even sweeter). The thing with U2's is not to "over spoil" them with holding them all the time or that is what they will expect and you will have to HEAR about it if you don't...LITERALLY..lol. Make sure they can self entertain.

Well said, Leanna! Poppy has a very sweet nature and only got sweeter. She was very traumatized and fearful at first, it took weeks before I was able to make a real connection. No one is kidding about the screaming, Poppy was taught to scream in her first home and had it reinforced in her second. It took a lot of behavior modification to change that. Habitual screamers are not happy birds and no one around them is happy either.

I go sometimes when he shrieks and not every time. Mostly, though, he does a few yells and then he's okay. This morning, he's been sitting on his cage playing with his toys and being a model citizen. I gave him his morning snuggle and took care of a pinnie I missed yesterday and he wanted to help get rid of the pieces of sheath. I'm so happy he lets me do that. It always bothers me when I see pinfeathers on my birds that they can't reach and they won't let me help. It looks so uncomfortable.
