Hello,

My name is Jason. I live in southeast Texas and currently have two birds: a Green Cheek Conure (Smoke, 4 yrs) and a Rose-Breasted Cockatoo (Zoe, 2yrs). My third feathered buddy, Teo (Congo Grey, 3 mos.), is just about weened and is coming home on May 15th. I'm super excited! I've browsed this forum several times and decided to join to have more opportunities to "talk" birds with other "bird people." Not many of my friends and co-workers seem as taken with my birdies as I do. So... glad to be here.

Just in case anybody reading this has a suggestion, I am slightly worried about the following...

I have three separate cages for my birds. All three have been cleared by my avian vet and are in good health. When the baby Grey comes home next week I would like to house him is the same room as the other two (which actually my living room, where I spend the majority of my time). What risks are involved with not quarantining the Grey? Are there behavioral risks? I kept the Too and the GCC separated initially, but while they tolerate each other now, they certainly do not "like" one another. I hope for a smooth transition for my Grey and appreciate any suggestions. Thanks to all for reading! It is nice to be here!

Welcome to the forum! :D I don't really have any advice on that but I envy the fact you have a RB2. Congrats on your new addition coming home, I'm sure you'll get advice soon ;)

Welcome to the forum. You have to quarantine any new birds you bring into your house in case they have any diseases or germs that they could pass to your other birds. The first thing you need to do when you get your grey is take it to an AVIAN vet and once the vet clears him you still have to quarantine him for 30 days in a separate room just to make sure. You don't quarantine the new birds because they might have behavior problems, you do it to make sure they aren't sick and can get your other birds sick.

Thanks for the responses. I figured as much concerning quarantining for health reasons, but I thought I would ask. Loving the forum already!

congrats on your new baby and welcomme to the forum. Alison and sweetie pie:D

Welcome to the forum! Basically like what was mentioned already you quarantine to be safe, but a true quarantine is in a completely different building from your existing birds cause some can be passed through the air. Best to always sanitize your hand before and after handling the new baby. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions! Two more days until my Congo comes home. Happy Mothers Day to all the moms in the forum! I thought I would include pics of my GCC (Smoke) and my RB2 (Zoe). Have a great day!
