Another Hi from South Africa!

I have had a number of budgies through my life and one cockatiel (inherited). But I recently bought a beautiful white cockatiel for my husband and he is a really bright little guy.

Coco was seven-weeks old when we got him and still on three porridge feeds a day. He is now nine-weeks old and gradually showing his preference for seeds over porridge. (YAY!!! Whoever invented chocolate-colored porridge for a baby WHITE cockatiel is mad!)

He has had his wings clipped, but only after he had done a number of super-speed flies across our sitting room. The final straw was when he discovered my husband's display of home-built wooden ships on top of the TV cabinet. He loved the life boat and decided that would be his home from home!

Enough already! Wings clipped. :03:

He is already trying to talk. It's very cute. He sits on his perch muttering to himself. Every now and then a "hello!" comes out, but otherwise it's gibberish.

Be extremely slow and gradual while weaning him onto solid food, don't ever make the decision for him to lessen an amount of formula or take away a feeding, he must be the one to reject a feeding or stop eating in the middle of one. Abundance-feeding them is so important neurologically, especially in a situation where he has already fledged early and been clipped prior to weaning, that wasn't the best idea to do, to clip him before he was fully weaned, so you want to take the weaning extremely slowly and on his terms only...And if he weans completely and starts suddenly crying at bedtime, that's because he wants a "comfort-feeding", and it's extremely important that you give it to him until he stops crying for it. You just don't want to end-up with a neurologically troubled bird for the rest of his life...

Welcome! Post pics of your baby! It's never to early to offer veggies and chop! I think if you offered more mom and dad approved hang out spots, you could reduce getting into your stuff and keep him flighted. I have 6 hang out spots or play areas, and my flock stays out of trouble. I use hanging hoops a lot, use fishing line to hang them from the ceiling to hights I want. Gives them lots of places to go, without taking your floor space. Still a good idea if not flighted to. Lot of long-term health and joy bennifits from flight. All right enough of that, welcome!
