Everyone associates Happy Hut risks with conures! This is one lucky cockatiel! The photo of what was removed is unbelievable! Over 2 inches of years buildup!

"This is Harry the Cockatiel who came to see Dr Nicole for a check up. We found something stuck in his crop which needed to come out, so he was referred to SASH exotics specialist where he had blood tests and fluids before he was strong enough to have his surgery. The object was made up of years worth of towel fibres that he had been chewing on his cage. Harry is recovering very well at home with his loving owners and eating much better! 🐤"

Thank you for posting this, David! Physical proof of the danger behind all the warnings. It’s wonderful to know little Harry survived his ordeal and is recovering.

For me, a major part of the horror is it builds up over years! Think of how you would feel with this sitting in you! Also, the surgery! They go in through the breast, cutting into the crop! Major risks and recovery!!

Oy....lucky indeed.
Poor guy...
I always worry about this happening (even though I have no happy huts).

Wow, that has to be one happy tiel! The size of the obstruction likely filled and expanded the crop. Had to be painful.

Thanks David!

Thank you Flboy. When we speak of happy hut fibers then we are talking fleece or synthetic fibers = plastic? If it weren't for the PF team poor Ellie would still have a happy hut and synthetic ropes on toys. Thank you PF family.
