Parrots
Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
...I still can't figure this Bird out, even after almost thirty years  The kids were low on supplies,BB's fruity pellets and Amys' Roudybush medium maintenance pellets. The only pet store around that carries them is P**S**** in the next town over, ( I know I know! order them online!) I would normally do that, but the ride to the store is something Amy loves, and who am I to deny him that!!??
As soon as we get in the car,he yells out "Go for a ride!!" How the heck does he even know that?? I could be there in less than fifteen minutes if I took the highway, but what fun would that be? So I take the "scenic route" thru town :D
It was a beautiful fall day...in the low sixties with plenty of sunshine, windows open. Amy on my right shoulder wide-eye'd as usual, sometimes talking in words, other times in Amazon speak. But it is the inflections in his voice that amaze me. At times he'd look at me and say something (unintelligible) with a question tone to his voice, and other times it would sound like he was making a statement (!!!!)
At a couple red lights someone would honk the horn and wave and Amy would yell something back..it was too funny!:)
It didn't stop at the store either. Inside it was words he hasn't said in a very long time ( Hello Amy..ELLEN! (moms name) James! (my son) ) and just other mumbles. He chatted with the Budgies, visited the finches, even eye-balled the little kittens in their glassed-in cubbys.
BUT...it was on the ride home that was truly amazing. He GENTLY nibbled and licked my ear  Demanded head skritches, even let me grab his beaky between my thumb and forefinger and let me rub it,then took my finger in his beak and softly mouthed it. He NEVER does that at home!! NEVER!! I wanted to ask him "what have you done with Amy???"
And did I mention the soft/sweet gurgles and coo'ing he did?
He really loves his car rides. I now need to get a dash-cam to record all of this!

So sorry folks for posting this once again,it's a broken record, but when he is like this it just makes me so happy I get the need to post :07:

Pretty cool Jim, I forget that Amy cant/doesn't fly. I'm sure Nike would be on my shoulder the entire ride, it would just be getting her in/out of the POB before I open the door that would be an issue.

Could his behavior actually be because he is in a different environment and is cozying up to daddy for support?

Bill, ever since he has been with me and I've taken him places,he has been like this. I honestly think it is because he likes the adventure of going to new places and seeing new faces. When we are out and he meets new faces he is never aggressive nor does he show any signs of fear or apprehension. He will even step-up at times to a strangers hand but I think its because I'm right there with him.

Good job human servant! Sounds like Amy thoroughly enjoyed his adventure:D

Kiwi also makes many funny vocalizations while in the car and in stores. He’s just that excited!

i am so glad you and Amy had a special moment! It’s little moments like this that make it all worth it!

Sounds like a lovely day, Jim! :)

"then took my finger in his beak and softly mouthed it."

Levi always does this, when we are snuggling. I just keep reminding him to be 'Easy' & 'Gentle'.

Thanks for sharing!

So cute! Sammy sits in the back seat in his travelling cage, and Monday I could smell his Amazon happy smell all the way home! He was talking to his bell and almost singing to the radio. What a life! I am sure Amy just loves his trips in the car. I guess it broadens their world, and parrots would love any of that.

As mentioned,he is a totally different birdie and I simply love his sweet, gentle self even more when he is like this. I can tell he is happy. Now I feel sad because the s*** and cold weather is right around the corner and we won't be able to do much "outside....in the car?" time.

Does Amy ride on your shoulder/seat in the car or does he have a travel cage/bag? Kirby’s original owner used to take him everywhere and he seems to love to ham it up in public. He has a travel cage but it’s heavy and awkward and I would love to get him a backpack or bag. I think he and Amy are similar in size :D

That’s so cute that he loves trips with you. I wonder if Kirby would do the same. He definitely perks up in the car.

Enjoyed your trip to the pet store Jim and all of Amy's joy, you wrote it so well, it made me feel I was sitting right there with you and Amy and going along too ...Happy days :)

He has his "Salty perch". a PVC perch Al and Salty gave us a couple years ago. At times I bungie chord it to the front passenger seat but then he can't see out the windows! He trys to stretch his neck to see, then he'll climb over the console to climb my shoulder, where he is content to stay...for hours. If we are going on a "long" ride ( like when we go visit Al and his family) I bring along a pet carrier, but only once ( on the way home from Al's) did I put him in it coz I could tell he was pretty tired from a long day of activities.

LOL, Amy would look cool with a pair of ol fashioned 'buggy' googles, an leather flight helmet! Get that dash cam man, we wanna see him chattering away!

Julio's prior owners traveled between Northern Michigan and deep Southeastern Texas (snowbirds). That in place, he is a Road Warrior and loves to travel! Not being able to see out of the Windows is a None Started for him and our SUV puts him even higher allowing him to overlord to his hearts content.
So, he and Amy are like-minded Road Warriors!!!

Too funny. We have a jag and a VERY tall truck. When she “Overlords” in the truckvshe is a much happier girl than well in the jag.

Yup!!! Julio loves the SUV. But the 1990 MB 300CE coupe', which sits low, even for a MB, but like your sweet girl, its okay, but if given the choice, the SUV wins every time. They just know that Overlording is far more enjoyable from on high... :D
